The right II window treatment can add much to 1 ! the appearance of a room, accord ' | ing to Catherine Campbell, exten sion specialist in housing and house ■! furnishings. Draperies require an investment '| of money and time; therefore, care •: ful planning and good workman ■; ship are important from the time : j the fabric is selected until the fin • ished drapery is hung. ’ j Miss Campbell suggests the fol lowing points to consider in sclect ! ing draperies: 1. Appropriateness of your whole j house, room, and window. } 2. Plan the color scheme of room, as draperies should har monize with other furnishings of room. 3. Select draperies of texture in keeping with furnishings. ’ 4. Draperies affect apparent size ’ of room. Strong contrast and large | outstanding design has tendency to i make room appear smaller. ‘ i 5. The amount of design in the rugs, walls, and other furnishings ' should determine whether one should use plain or figured draper ' ies. When using wallpaper with distinct design, solid draperies would be desirable. “How will this material look at ' home?” is a question every home maker asks herself when she looks at materials. Often the fabric that looks the best in the shop is dis appointing when seen at home. ’ “Many shops allow one to take the 1 fabric home for a few hours or overnight to select the color, de-1 r : sign, and type of fabric that fits in | TEE CHOWAN HERALD, EDENTON, NORTH CAROLINA, THURSDAY,, OCTOBER 4, 1956. . best with the other furnishings in the room,” Miss Campbell explain ed. ON CHOWAN COLLEGE TEAM Chowan College gridders opened their 1956 season Saturday night when they played Randolph Macon Jayvees. Among the freshmen giv ing outstanding performances is Clarence Lupton of Edenton, a member of last year’s Edenton Aces. Lupton is a halfback.
