Aces Getting Ready For Ahoskie Game Continued From Page 1, Section 1 has lost two games, going down to Hertford 7-0 and also Tarboro 7-0. On paper the Aces should hold an edge, for Hertford defeated Ahoskie but on the other side of the ledger Ahoskie rolled up a lar ger score against Roanoke Rapids; than the Aces did. Followers of the Aces also well remember the 1954 game played in Ahoskie, the first year William Hillings reach ed the Aces. Edenton entered the game a strong favorite, hut came out of the game on the short end of a 19-13 score, Ahoskie cannot be considered a push-over so that Coach Billings is taking the Aces through strenuous practice sessions in anticipation of a hard-fought game and is especial ly stressing tKe danger of over confidence. If the Aces play the brand of ball Friday night as they did against Hertford, the chances for a victory are bright. However, if they enter the game over-confi dent and are the victims of an un lucky break or two, they might be in the same boat as Hertford was j in their last game. The Aces have met Ahoskie 13 times to date and in this series the Aces hold the upper hand, having won seven and lost five, With one game ending in a tie. The two teams met first in 1927,; when two games were played with the Aces winning both by scores of 28-0 and 32-0. They did not meet again until 1930, when the Aces won 27-0. In 1931 two games were played, the first resulting in SECTION ONI PAGE THREE a 6-6 tie and at the end of tile season Ahoskie won their firtlt game from the Aces 6-0. ( ’ * Relations were again brdken off until 1943, when Edenton won 6-0. The 1944 game resulted in a victory for Ahoskie, but the fol lowing year the Aces were victori ous 14-7. No game was scheduled again until 1949, when Ahoskie won 30-7. In 1950 the Aces slaughtered the Indians 54-0, but in the next game in 1953 Ahoskie won a hard-fought game 14-12. In the last meeting in Ahoskie ia 1954, the Aces were the victim# of an unlucky break in attempting te break up a pass and Ahoskie won 19-13. Last year tl*? Aces had|a comparatively easy time, winning the game by a 26-14 score. ROTARIANS MEET TODAY,. Edenton Rotarians will meetfin the Parish House this (ThursdK) afternoon at 1 o’clock.
