p Y#R SOCIAL SECURITY 1 IS--: ; ffjy-. • - t What can farm • people , expect frWmtbe disability provisions of the foetal security program ? This s a timely question since! fnany of you have heard that U monthly benefit payments will be made to certain disabled workers beginning with a payment for July *f,thig yeaT. It is not likely that maayfaYFners will qualify for dis ahility benefits in the Pear future, however, because of the rather se vere eligibility requirements. Right now, they are more likely to bene fit from the provisions for paying I benefits to disabled children over the age of 18. sfost 'people know that social se curity benefits are paid to children nhder age 18 of insured farm work ers and insured farm operators * wlio haver! reached age 65 and have yejited orhavp died. Thousands oi farmers are filing their applica tions this year for their old-age ieiiefits and some of them will also * these auxiliary bene fits f*f their minor children. It is *o( s€*jwell known, however, that! such art-auxiliary benefit is also pajd iflhe benefficiary has an adult, that has-been disabled since before the'age'o? 18 and is dependent upon him The eligibility requirements a | fattner or any other working per-j soft must meet to get a social se-j ,v.curfsy disability benefit boil down! to the following: 1.. The individual must have beenj k under social .security a year and a Weekly- Devotional >. Column ; ) “By JAMES MacKJBNZTF. *• *lo*o ■ , - - let all the forms that men devise Assault my faith with treacherous fl *rt; H call them vanity and lies. And bind Thy Precepts to my heart. ' “Yes, hath God said?” (Genesis 3:1). When our adversary, the devil, finds he can get away with his diplomatic affirmative, he ad vances a step further: “Hath God said?” He begins to cast subtle doubt on the authority of the Scrip tures as the Word of God. One modernist has even been so bold as v to likdn the Bible ,io an umbrella /( that men hold over them to Jceep 11 out the sun (God). Such words as “fiction", “fable,” “myth,” “Jew ish folk-lore”, and “fantastic tra ditions” have been used to describe >- the historical portions of the Old Testament. The beloved apostle, John, is said to have composed long sermons, and then included them in Hif} Gospel as the words of Jesus. We are told there are contradic tions in the Bible # (I have read any number of books that claimed there were contradictions, but I have not yet seen an attempt, to point out even one contradiction, and I am not at all ignorant of the literature of “modernism”). - tbecquge.we could find no mention of Ur of the Chpldees, his home town, in contemporary pagan rec ords (“modernists” can be insuf ferably pompous when making pro nouncements like that). Shortly after this revelation an archeolo gist found a clay tablet somewhere that mentioned Ur of the Chaldees, 1 and we were told that we could take the book of Genesis off the fiction shelf and replace it on the history shelf for awhile. This in cident is indicative of the intellee . tual dishonesty of those who go around making smart-alecky re marks about the Bible. They ac • eepted without question the testi mony of a clay tablet, but they jumped at an excuse to discredit the Holy Word of God. Surely, in fairness, the Bible is entitled to at least as much confidence as any other ancient record. Even tlje fundamentalists, T feel, do not have a high enough appre ciation of the work of God in the inspiration of the Holy Book. The jg fundamentalists are splendidly ]oy- Ofc *1 to the'Bible, even to the point where they have been accused of worshipping it (which at that is £•, better than worshipping a clay tab s let), but they believe that inspira tion extends only to the very words ■; y of Scripture. Jesus said, “one jot il «r one tittle shall in no wise pass * #ram the law, till all be fulfilled” (Matthew 6:18). The “jot” is the ■ amallest Hebrew letter, in size and - n,uch like an apostrophe. Hrag tittle is the fancy, or unneces- part of the letter: for exam ill)!*, in the capital letter “I” the * half oift of the three immediately preceding the disability. ! 2. He must also have been under ! social security five out of tne ten years preceding his disability. 3. He must be So severely dis abled that he cannot engage in any substantial gainful work and the disability must be expected to continue indefinitely. He is not en titled simply because he can no longer do the work he used to do. The disability must also be one that is medically determinable. I 4. His disability must have last ed for six months before any pay ments can be made. 5. He must be at least 50 years of age and he must file an applica tion. 6. If a person is under age 50, he cgn qualify for a disability .freeze which protects this individ-. ual until age 50. The requirements*, are the same as above. If a person is drawing some oth er disability pension from the Fed eral Government or a Federal or State workmen’s compensation benefit, the amount of that benefit will be subtracted from any social security disability benefits payable. Eligibility for a veterans disabili ty payment or a finding of disabili ty under some- other public or pri | vate system does not necessarily i mean that the person will qualify {for the social' security disability benefit payments. The social se curity requirements are much j stricter than those under most oth er plans. AAAC.AA.MMi smallest letter, even to the su-j perfluous, unnecessary flourishes j on the letters. * Yes hath God said .. . ? Where Satan places a question mark, let us respond with an exclamation point! Where Satan asks, “Yea hath God said?” Let us answer, “Yea, God hath said!” Acreage Decrease For Sweet Potatoes Reports from sweet potato grow ers indicate that 38,000 acres will he planted in the State during 1067. the N.
