M. The dis • "* trict has eighteen counties and t approximately six hundred club women are expected to attend. Highlight of the morning ses sion will be the address given by our guest speaker, Miss Ruth Cur - rent, State Home Demonstration Agent, Raleigh, N. C. In the af ternoon Mrs. Grace J. Knight, Home Economist, Pet Milk Com pany, will give a demonstration on “Simple Entertainments, Using Milk Dishes.” We urge each club woman to attend this meeting. The public is cordially invited to be present. f|• • • Achievement Program ■ Monday night the home dem onstration women of the county held their annual Achievement Program at White Oak Consoli dated School. Quite a large au dience was there to enjoy the pro gram. W. H. Creecy, principal at White Oak, gave welcome re marks and made us feel right at home. Mrs. Pattie Fayton, Secre tary of the County Council, sum marized our activities for the year. Beside our monthly pro ject work and county improve ment campaigns we have coop j erated fully in all District and State meetings and activities. Club women presented a Fash ion Show of correct dress for dif ferent occasions. These scenes „ were shown by the following clubs: StasrelsSetFor Halloween Party Continued from Pago I—Section 1 o’clock, where amusements and refreshments will be furnished free of charge. The youngsters will be given tickets which will be accepted at the various booths and besides other free attractions will be offered, including a talk ing witch, outdoor movies, for tune tellers, fish pond, apple bob bing and the ever popular hay ride Which will be in charge of Edenton'Marines. Special prizes will be awarded for.the fcest costumes and floats. For costumes there will be five prizes, one for the most original, (The each for the most comical boy and girl and one each for the best boy and girl costumes. Two priz es will bd<given for floats, one for stationary floats and one for mov ing floats. This year’s Halloween party is ' expected- to eclipse all .previous parties and the help and coopera tion of many people have been enlisted to carry out a program which should be enjoyed by many adults as well as children. Mrs. Bruce Jones, Jr., and Mrs. Richard Hardin are co-chairmen of this ; year’s- party. Costume judges will be Mayor TCehayes, the Rev. James MacKenzie, Comdr. Donald Dal tqh, Mrs, L. A. Patterson and Mrs. R. T. Whitten. Judges for the floats are H. Edenton Home Demonstration Club had on display an educa tional exhibit, “Farm and Home Improvement.” Home Demonstration Queen Contest Miss Agnes Boyce, contestant from the Virginia Fork home demonstration club, was crowned home demonstration queen at the Achievement Program. Miss Boyce reported a high of $55.00. Second place was won by Mrs. Ihez Standley of the Hudson Grove Club and third place by Mrs. Tamar White of the Ryans Grove Club. Other contestants reporting were: Mrs. Mary Nix-i on, Triangle; Mrs. Agnes White, I Paradise Road; Mrs. Catherine! Lewis, Edenton; Mrs. Maggie Riddick, Center Hill; Mrs. Luella Bembry, Canaan Temple; Mrs. Mariah Skinner, St. John; Mrs. Lula Thompson, Warren Grove; Mrs. Louvenia Valentine, Green Hall and Mrs. Lucy Willis, Cis co. Costumes will be judged at the band stand on the playground. The Edenton Junior-Senior High School Band will head the! parade and, as in previous years, I will be diked out in Halloween. attire. Twelve Chowan County farm ers went to Nashville to hear Con gressman Harold Cooley lead a discussion of the proposed pea nut control bill. Many children attended an eye clinic sponsored by the Edenton Lions Club. Bishop Thomas C. Darst was the speaker at St. Paul's Episco pal Church. St. Mary's Guild of St. Paul's Church sponsored a children's re vue and style show. Robert B. Oliver died sudden ly at his home on Mosely Street following a stroke of paralysis. . - Advertisements were placed for bids for construction work at the Edenton High School. F. W. Pruden announced plans for the annual Red Cross drive for funds. R. C. Holland was speaker at the Rotary meeting, when he ex plained the mechanics of the Pea nut Stabilization Cooperative. Mrs. Bessie Shepard, new pres ident of the American Legion Au xiliary, announced committees for the year. Charlie Belch entered suit against C. H. Small for $2,025 damages for alleged assault with out provocation. New Regulations Affect Fishing Cage Hayman this week calls attention to some of the regula tions adopted early this month by the Board of Conservation and Development* Two of the regulations apply Jocally one being that it shall be alwful during the shad season to set gill nets to take shad and rock between the Highway Bridge across Albemarle Sound at Pea Ridge and the Norfolk Southern raliroad bridge fice miles west; but it shall be unlawful to set such gil nets for rock and shad west of the Norfolk Southern railroad bridge; provided that no nets of any description shall be i set within three hundred yards of j either side of the two bridges. Another new regulation pro vides that it shall be lawful dur ing the herring season to set gill nets of nqt more than one and a half inch bar in Chowan River and that part of Albemarle Sound above Norfolk Southern Bridge for purpose of catching herring. ON MASONIC PROGRAM Johnny and Shirley Lewis were on the program for the annual La dies’s Night program of Suffolk Lodge No. -30, A. F. & A. M., held Thursday night of last week. The Edenton couple presented instru mental music and their numbers were received by rounds of ap plause. Joint Meeting Os Legion - Auxiliary Thursday, Nov. 7 Troy Toppin, commander of Ed Bond Post No. 40, of the Ameri can Legion, announced this week that the regular meeting of the Post on Tuesday night, November 12, has been cancelled. Instead, a joint meeting of the Legion naires and members of the Leg irj, Auxiliary will be held Thurs day night, November 7. This meeting will be held at the Oak Grove Community Building at 7 o’clock when a barbecue chicken supper will be served. M., of a heart attack at his home, 7 Findley Avenue, Hampton, Va. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie Joynes Nixon; two sons, B. J. Nixon, Jr., and Wil liam Nixon; four daughters, Mrs. Clyde Wilson, Mrs. Nancy Martin, Mrs. Bill Malcolm and Miss Nan Nixon, all of Hampton, Va.; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. El lie Goodwin of Edenton; one half brother, Robert Nixon of Eden ton. Funeral services were held at the Hayden Smith Fuheral Home Thursday at 3:30 o’clock, conduct ed by the Rev, Samuel Sanders, pastor of the Colonial Place | Church of Christ and the Rev. Burdette Slicer, pastor of the Grace Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers were J. M. Ogburn, i George Berriana, Richard Isner, i John Main, W, E. Powell and A. jC. Stokes.
