Gliden Club Has
Christmas Party
Gliden Local 4-H Club cele
brated the .Christmas season with
a party held at the Wards Com
munity Building on Monday,
J December 16. The twelve club
[members present were Betty and
■ Kenneth Layton, Joe, Dan,
Nancy, Jimmy, Susan and Patsy
Ward, Margaret Byrum, Betty
and Edla Hugo and Jimmy
Simpson. Local leaders, Mrs.
James Ward and Mrs. Foy Ward,
also attended and assisted R. S.
Marsh, assistant .county agent, in
conducting the meeting.
Supervised recreation was the
only order of business for the
evening, being concluded with
refreshments served by the
leaders.
The Wards Home Demonstra
tion Club recently re-elected
Mrs. James Ward and elected
Mrs. Foy Ward for her first such
experience as leaders for the
coming year. Mrs. James Ward
has ably served the local 4-H
Club for two years.
The Wards Club has been very
cooperative in past years in
sponsoring the Gliden Local 4-H
group as one of its projects. It
is felt that with the leadership
of these Home Demonstration
Club members the Gliden 4-H
Club will- make much progress
in 1958.

Fidelis Club Has
Christmas Party
The Fidelis Wives’ Club held
its monthly social meeting Tues
day night, December 17, at 8
o’clock in the game room of the
Staff NCO Club. The members,
accompanied by their husbands,
enjoyed a very gala Christmas
party. There were 21 present for
the evening.
Members brought variations of
perishables to make up a Christ
mas basket for a needy family.
Mrs. R. C. Keyes, chairman, is in
charge of distributing the food to
a family. Mrs. J. E. Bunn is
working with Mrs. Keyes as her
assistant.
After the members and hus
bands ■ participated in playing
games, the group sang Christmas
Carols. Mrs. J. F. Durrence,
Mrs. C. H. Estes and Mrs. R. C.
Keyes were in charge of the
games. Then Santa Claus came
to visit from the North Pole.
Santa had useful gifts for all the
ladies and gentlemen.
The social was then turned over
to the hostess chairmen, Mrs. J.
B. Singletary and Mrs. J. B.
Brennan. The club members do
nated very delicious refreshments
for the party which were enjoy
ed by everyone. The refresh
ments consisted of hot spice
Christmas punch, Japanese fruit
cake, angel food cake, chocolate
cake, cookies, fudge, candy, nuts

Edenton Lions entertained
their ladies at their annual
Christmas party Tuesday even
ing of this week at the Ma
sonic Temple. A sumptuous
dinner of turkey, ham, dressing,
candied yams, cranberry, sauce,
com and beans was served buf
fet style by the Edenton Chapter
of the Eastern Star. Lions were
nearly 100% in attendance, ac
companied by their ladies, who
were presented Shaeffer pens by
the club and Hollingsworth can
dies by John Mitchener. Christ
mas carols were led by West
Leary. Invocation was by Gus
Hughes. Lions and Lionesses
were welcomed by President
Medlin Belch. Mrs. Haywood
Bunch responded to the welcome
on behalf of the ladies. The
traditional Christmas story ac-'
cording to St. Luke was read by
