Cullipher, son of Walter E. Cullipher, Edenton, recently won basewide honors as Best Noncommissioned Officer of the Month for February at his station with the Thirteenth Air Force on Clark Air Base in the Philippines. The winner, who was selected by a character guidance council, topped 16 other nominees who vied for the coveted monthly title and award at stake. In presentation ceremonies held |at the office of the Clark AB j Commander, Sergeant Cullipher received a letter of commenda j tion signed by the Commander i himself; a sls-cash check; a rec ! reational three-day pass to John Hay Air .Base, top recreational center for American armed forces personnel stationed in the Philip pines, and a week-end sojourn in Manila with,meals and room ex penses paid at the famous Manila Hotel. Sergeant Cullipher, who has been radar section NCOIC with the 26th Fighter Interceptor Squadron since early 1957, was commended for the outstanding manner by which he supervises the maintenance of rocket control systems of F-86 Sabrejets assign ed to his squadron. His ability to get work done and promote har mony among subordinates is far superior to many NCO’s senior in grade, experience and age. The youthful noncom, a Merry High School graduate, is enroll ed at the Clark extension branch of the University of the Philip pines where he has earned 1% years credit toward'a BA degree. His wife, the former Martha Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Turner Cox, of Lakeland, Ga., and their 15-month-old son, Mi chael, are presently with him on Clark. OAK GROVE CLUB MEETS . i Mrs. Dick Byrum presented the demonstration on “Fabrics—Syn thetics and Blends”, at the Oak Grove Home Demonstration Club meeting last week. Her discuss ion of fabrics included the vari ous blends of natural and syn thetic fibres, characteristics of each, and information as to price and care. Club members found Mrs. Byrum’s demonstration both interesting and informative. During the business session, the treasurer, Mrs. Marvin Ev ans, gave her report. Serving suppers has been one of the most popular fund raising projects for the Oak Grove Club, and funds so raised have gone to make im provements on the building. The club had helped the 4-H’ers spon sor a chicken barbecue supper in connection with the Fat Stock Show. Plans were made to serve a group from a local church in the near future. The “Homemaker” from Oak Grove was selected by the group. In response to an urgent appeal by the county drive chairman, the women agreed to cooperate by so liciting their community for the Red Cross.
