Mr. and Mrs. Ted Fryer and children, Bobby and Martha of Leechburg, Pennsylvania, spent the Easter holidays with Capt. and Mrs. K. L. Byers and family. Mrs. Fryer is Mrs. Byers’ sister. Lt. Col. and Mrs. W. A. Free entertained at an Easter brunch at 1:00 P. M., on Easter Sunday. Guests present were: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Newcomb, Chaplain and Mrs. M. A. Curry, Major and Mrs. George Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Don Mabry, Major and Mrs. Phil Davis, Major and Mrs. J. H. La- Voy and Mrs. Marvin Crowdis. Children of all the guests were invited and enjoyed an Easter egg hunt at the Free home. Mr. and Mrs. Don Mabry and children, Mark and Nancy of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, were week-end guests of Major and Mrs. George Ross of,, Westover Heights. The next event of the Officers Wives’ Club will be a box supper at the club on Saturday night, April 19, at 7 o’clock. Each cou ple must bring a box for two. Each box and each woman will be given a number—the box will —be sold by number for $2.00. Bachelors are urged to come and bring a date. There will be a door prize of $20.00 given away. The dress is western style. A western dance, sponsored by the club, will follow with Wee Willie and The Virginians furnishing the music. This event promises loads of fun ... so let’s all join in and support our Officers Wives’ Club on Saturday, April 19. Col. and Mrs. Dick Batdorff spent Tuesday through Thursday of this week vacationing in Wash ington, D. C. Chowan was count ed in second place last year and is expected to give other counties in the district a tight race this year for the attendance recog nition. According to the home agent. Miss Maidred Morris, several clubs have reported that their members plan to attend. She says if any of the women desire to go but do not have transportation, please notify her office, phone 3129. “Please make an effort to have your club 100% in attend ance at this meeting,” Miss Mor ris stresses. DYNAMITE A-BOMB TRIGGER BLASTS HOUSE--A l'-i ■ mentally dropped an atomic bomb in the back yard of Walter Gregg's house in Florence. S. C. The A-bomb wasn’t fused but the dynamite detonator blasted a crater 35 feet deep and 75 feet across, leveled nearby pine trees like matchsticks and turned farmer Gregg’s home into a sagging shell. Gregg and four members of his family were slightly injured. The accident triggered an inter national uproar about the danger of having planes flying around carrying the nuclear weapons.
