Emmett Winslow
Optimistic About
Future Progress
J. Emmett Winslow of Hert
ford was the speaker at last
week’s Rotary meeting, when he
stated that he was now very op
timistic about the economic sit
uation in Eastern North Caro
lina.
»Mr. Winslow based a goodly i
portion of his optimism on the
proposed tunnel and bridge
across Chesapeake Bay and the
development of Harvey Point as
a Navy installation. He said the
rifext 10 years should be one of
the best in history.
* Mr. Winslow said he cannot
site why this section cannot
compete with any other section
of the state, especially in re
gard to processing foodstuff.
The tunnel and bridge will pro
vide faster delivery to markets,
he said, and will also attract
many citizens to this section to
make their homes. Mr. Wins
low said he feels certain bridges
will cross Alligator River and
Oregon Inlet, thus causing tra
vel to increase and predicted
that U. S. 17 highway will be
made a four-lane highway.
Jerry Holmes and Sid White,
Edenton seniors, were guests of
the Rotarians.
