His duties are comprised of the proofing of wills, deeds and official bonds; the appointment and re- vocation of guardians of infants and lunatics; the granting and revocation of letters testamentary and of administration, and among others, the auditing of the accounts of guardians, exec utors and administrators. * The exercise of these powers by the “Clerk of the Court” is the exercise of them by the “Court”, through the Clerk, and the ac tion of the Clerk stands as that of the Court, if not excepted to and reversed or modified on appeal. Other powers and duties are: Entering judgment in any suit pending in his court in certain instances; to preserve order in his court and to punish contempts; to prepare the docket and to exemplify, under seal*of his court, all trans cripts of deeds, papers or proceedings therein, which shall. be received in evidence in all the courts of the State. He is Ex Officio, Judge of Juvenile Court. - • By exhibiting this little knowledge of the duties and powers of the Clerk of Superior Court, Iby no means pretend to know all there is to know about the office. However, I do believe with my college background and average in telHgence and with proper on-the-job training I will be able to meet the various situations as they arise and deal with them in such a manner as prescribed by l»w, Being only twenty-six years of age and having interest in the job as I do, I believe that I will be capable of giving the County many years of faithful service, provided that YOU the people, see fit to place me in this office. Pending graduation from college in November with a B.S. degree in Business Educa tion, 1 have been subjected not only to courses in accounting, office management and skill courses, but to two courses in Busines Law which include courts and court proced- reasons for their irregular behavior, and giving them guidance in such away as to be most helpful and effective. We entrust our children with these individuals for a num ber of years for the purpose of itioulding them into good citizens with ethical and moral character, equipping them to manage the affairs of tomorrow... In my opinion these qualifications mark the TRUE Juvenile Judge! ure, Corporation Law and many other phases. With a minor in Social Studies, I have been subjected to courses in History, Economics, Money and Banking, Investments, In surance and National and Municipal government. Who are better Juvenile Judges than our teachers who, with the combination of psychology and teacher education courses do not judge individuals, but strive to aid them in solving their problems with sympathy and understanding, by seeking out the PLATFORM Being twenty-six years of age and in good health, I consider myself physically qualified for the office and duties of Clerk of Superior Court of Chowan County. Graduating from College in November with a BS degree in Business Education, I consider myself mentally competent for said office and its duties. I am not seeking election because of family name or deed, but am doing so on my own merits. If elected, I promise to serve the func tions and duties of the office with all courtesy and sincerity and to perform these services and duties to the best of my ability. I advocate the methods and procedures used by our present Clerk of Superior Court, Mr. Edward Spires, who has so faithfully and unsel fishly served us for the past eighteen years, and who will vacate said office on December 1,1958. If elected, I shall invite the Acting Clerk, Mrs. Lena Leary, to remain Deputy Clerk of Superior Court of Chowan County. ★ ON THE ABOVE PLATFORM I EARNESTLY APPEAL FOR YOUR VOTE IN THE PRIMARY ELECTION
