Henderson Visitors Mrs. R. H. Bachman and son, Augustus Bachman of Henderson spent Sunday with Mrs. Wood Privott. Mrs. Bachman remained for a visit with Mrs. Wood. Leary, Jr., of Edenton, will graduate from the University of North Carolina School of Nursing June 2. Miss Leary will be awarded the de gree bachelor of science in nurs ing. This degree is awarded by the University of North Carolina following satisfactory completion of a 4 year program which in cluded both general and profes sional education. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Bunch at the U. S. Fish Hatchery. Capt. Leary and family have recently return ed from a two-year tour of duty at Whittier, Alaska, and will re side in Williamsburg, Va., while he is stationed at Fort Eustis. o . . . Wellesley will hold its 80th an nual commencement exercises on Monday morning, June 9. Miss Margaret Clapp, president of the College, will confer the degrees. Speaker will be James Reston, Pulitzer Prize-winning chief of the Washington bureau of the New York Times. Baccalaureate services for the graduating class will take place Sunday morning, June 8, when Dr. Paul L. Lehmann, Parkman Professor of Theology at the Har vard University Divinity School, will preach the sermon. A traditional baccalaureate ves per service by the Wellesley Col lege Choir, a senior class supper, parents’ dinner, and reception on the lawn of the President’s House on the campus are among other events planned for seniors and their guests during the com mneement week-end. Miss Wood, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Wood, is a gradu ate of Salem Academy, Winston- Salem. She is majoring in French, and is the president of the Alliance Francaise at Wellesley. Mrs. Lewis Basnight died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Spruill on Oakum Street. Methodists closed a revival at which Dr. J. Marvin Culbrelh of Rocky Mount was the speaker. Mrs. J. J. Long had the misfor tune to break heT left arm when she fell at her home while get ting ready to go to church. John Moore, a junior at the University of North Carolina, was elected president of the Interfra terniiy Council. GUM POND CLUB MEETS The Gum Pond Home Demon stration Club met in May with Mrs.- Clarence Bass and Miss Ila Bass. There were 11 members present. The club was happy to have two 4-H girls, Judy Haste and Betty Jean Smith, give their dairy foods demonstration. Miss Maidred Morris helped the club members work on a frozen food crossword puzzle. Outdoor meals wa s the dem onstration topic this month. Now that warm weather is here every one thinks of getting outside to eat. “Food just tastes better out side,” said Miss Morris. “When planning your outside meal al ways be sure to include the basic seven foods. To enjoy outside meals does not always mean you have to cook outside. Your meal may be completely prepared in the kitchen then served outside in a nice shady spot.” ENTERPRISE CLUB MEETS The Enterprise Home Demon stration Club held its May meet ing with Mrs. Hurley Ward. The meeting was opened by singing “Onward, Ever Onward”, the National Home Demonstration Club song. Mrs. Fred Bunch, president, dis cussed Farm-Home Week. .-- Mrs. Bunch will represent Enterprise Club during the week of June 9- 12. She urged the members to attend the County Council this month. Miss Maidred Morris, home agent, gave a very interesting demonstration on preparing and serving “Outdoor Meals”. She said, “summertime is the time to enjoy picnics and cooking outside.
