Jake Muth Funeral Held In Edenton Funeral services were held Sun day afternoon al 3 o’clock at the Williford Funeral Home for Jake Muth, 57, who died Friday in Nor folk after a lingering illness. The Rev. Earl Richardson, pastor of the Edenton Methodist Church, officiated. Mr. Muth, a lormer Edentonian. was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Muth but lived ait Ocean View for a number of years. Surviving are three brothers, Frank O. Muth of Snow Hill, N. C., George Muth of Newport News and Nick Muth of Ports-1 mouth; three sisters, Mrs. Josiah I Elliott and Miss Tillie Muth of Edenton and Mrs. Marguerite j Howell of Newport News . Final Winners In Chamber Os Commerce Fishing Contest The wife of Edenton’s mayor and an eight-year-old angler from Colerain are among the grand prize winners in the Cham ber of Commerce fishing contest which closed September 2. In making the announcement, Scott Harrell, chairman of the Tourist and Recreation Committee, said that two other local fishermen and one other from Colerain also captured season’s prizes in the contest which began in June and| made weekly awards for the! heaviest bream, largemouth bass, I crappie, rockfish and white perch caught in local waters. I The heaviest entry made in any ( class was a big thirteen pound rockfish which measured 32 in ches and won the season’s grand award in this class Mil ler of Colerain. Miller caught the winner on a Pet spoon troll ing off Cannon’s Ferry in the Chowan River. Edenton’s first lady, Mrs. E. P. Kehayes, won the season’s award for the six pound, fourteen and a half ounce largemouth bass she caught in Pembroke Creek. The mayor’s wife brought in her win ner while casting from the back yard. She stirred up “backyard” easting for many neighbors but none could match her entry. Young Norman Perry, Jr., of Colerain took the season’s award for the heaviest crappie entered] in the weekly contests. It weigh ed one pound, four ounces, meas- ] tired 13 inches and was caught in the Chowan River. Bass of Edenton. He was troll ing in Edenton Bay using “shys ter” bait. , The grand award for bream went to Melvin Evans, Edenton, for his entry weighing one pound, one ounce, measuring 1014 inches. His winner was caught off Holly Wharf on crickets. Harrell said prizes of $lO gift certificates will be presented to each winner by Bell’s, Byrum Hardware Company, Edenton Ma rina, Hugho6-Parker Hardware and Western Auto. The stores, which were official weighing sta tions, also donated weekly prizes for winners in each classification since the contest started. Harrell said the contest creat ed a great deal of interest and many have requested a similar contest to be held next spring.
