The meeting was opened by singing “America the Beautiful” with Mrs. J. J. Ross at the piano. The devotional was presented by, the Rev. George Holmes, after which Mr. Bunch extender's welcome to all who were present, j During the meeting the con stitution and by-laws of the as sociation were adopted. The membership committee reported! that a total of 233 members had been enrolled and that the drive j for members was still in pro gress. Mr. Bunch introduced Super intendent John A. Holmes, who stated that there are a large num- j' ber of new teachers in the schools this year, due in part to I Marine families leaving Edenton, | and that he hoped the new teachers are meeting with the same sort of hospitality which he experienced when he came to Edenton 35 years ago. Mr. Holmes also made the ob servation that two former PTA presidents were named to the Board of School Trustees, Mrs. J. Clarence Leary, now serving, and W. T. Harry, who has moved from Edenton. He ex tended an invitation to PTA members to attend meetings of the trustees, especially when they have any problems to con sider. Principal Gerald James also made a few remarks, saying he was delighted to see so many at the meeting. He referred to the fact that the PTA should be i more interested in the teen-age , group. During the meeting Jack Bunch, president of the Student Council, and Patricia Waff were introduced as representatives of the Student Council. Following the meeting the group adjourned to the cafeteria where the teachers formed a line to meet PTA members. Re- , freshments were served by Mrs. J. F. Frank Jones & Son Open New Business On Broad Street Another new business will be gin operation in Edenton Friday of this week when Frank Jones & Son will open a fruit and vege table store in the building former ly occupied by Habit’s Grocery. The new concern will carry a full line of fruits and vegetables in season, which they will sell wholesale and retail. Frank Jones has had 20 years’ experience in the fruit and vege table business and plans to carry a complete line of fresh merchan dise at all times. He formerly operated the fruit stand on High way 17 near the Chowan River bridge and deals extensively in watermelons during the summer. Mr. Jones r son, Carroll Wood Jones, will be manager of the store and will have as clerks Mrs. Charlie Morgan and Henderson Goodwin, all of whom will be an xious to assist customers.
