Negro Home Demonstration News 1 MRS. ONNIE S. CHARLTON. Negro Home Dewonatrathm Agcnt^ One hundred and ten 4-H Club members attended 4.H Achieve-' ment Day held’at the Brown-Car ver Library last Saturday. Some eighty of these brought products representing their project work/ to make the exhibit one of the. best in several years. The dis play included sewing articles from clothing projects, canned products, prepared foods, garden vegetables,! farm products, eggs, handicraft, I needle work and fruits. A short program was held and a 4-H Club film entitled “Where ■ The Road Turns Right,” was shown. The Bth grade 4-H Club' from Edenton High School cap-' tured two prizes, one for the best table in the exhibits and the lar-| gest club attendance. Second 1 place in exhibits went to the 7A] 4-H Club, Edenton High School] and third place to the 6C 4-H Club of Edenton High School. Four-H clubs represented at Achievement Day were: Edenton High School —SA Club, 58, SC, 6A, 68, 6C, 7A,1 78, and Bth grade; St. John 4-H Club and the 6th grade, White Oak School. Listed below are suggestions prepared by the Home Food Sup-1 ply Committee, N. C. State Col-! lege Agriculture Extension Ser-' vice on “Raise A Square Meal Around Home.” 1. Plan Thanksgiving dinner. Have it all in the freezer to cook, or cook parts of it ahead of time and put back in freezer. ' 2. Plant low-growing hardy crops like beets, mustard, radish, j turnips, onions and lettuce in coldframes for winter harvest. i 3. Properly store surplus root | crops like turnips, rutabagas, beets, carrots, radish and pota-j toes for winter use. 4. Check storage facilities for canned and stored foods before, the winter freezes. 5. Take advantage of the large supply of broilers for eating now! and filling your deep freeze for, later. 6. With the coming of coldi weather, provisions should be made now to keep the birds com fortable. Electric water warmers' are in most instances a good in-; vestment. 7. Purchase a good dairy calf that will be a future family milk cow. Many Grade A dairymen have surplus heifer calves at this time of the year and one can be purchased reasonably. A good family milk cow can save a fami ly of five as much as S2OO in their annual milk bill. Both the calf, and cow can often be fed on feed] that normally goes to waste on many farms. 8. Begin collecting ingredients for your Christmas fruit cakes. Bake them earlier so the fruits and spices can become well blend C<gtm WANT TO TALK TERMS? V ABUNDANT M MJ WS*""* by ORAL ROBERTS HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED? To become a widow suddenly is • dismaying experience, especially 1 when there are young children to Srovide for. Few conditions of fe appear to be so desperate. Yet, God has said that he is a father of the fatherless and a judge ! of the widows. One woman, suddenly faced l With this disheartening situation, ■ noticed also that it is written in t, Isaiah 54:5, “For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts , is his name.” She gathered her children ' around her and cried, "O Father, ' you said YOU would be a father l to the fatherless, and you said you j would be a husband and a judge of the widows. Now, Lord, a father provides and brings in food j for his children, and he provides the needs of his wife to prepare the food. I am depending solely on you to keep your Word. You said you would provide all of our needs according to your riches in glory by Christ Jesus. ’• j When she prayed this prayer her funds were exhausted. At the moment the food supply was get ting very low-, so low that there were only some stewed tomatoes remaining. It was a cold February night. She rose from her knees ana thanked God for his promise to provide and began to prepare her'l'hildren for bed. ' A widow, with four small chil dren, one only a few months old, without a means of earning a live lihood, facing the lonely prospect of struggle suddenly abandoned her fear ana turned to God. It was 1 wonderfully comforting for her to that God had promised to a father to the fatherless, a hus band to the widow. V Shortly thereafter, she heard a ton ,a son; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jordan, Hobbsville, a daughter; Mr. and Mr*. Oscar E. The woman went out to her car and, with an other woman, began to carry things into the house—smoked and fresh meats, pork and beef, all kinds of vegetables, all varieties of canned foods, potatoes, flour, eggs, milk, and even cake and candy. It was like a dream. The food had been sent from a church about 30 miles away. The widow knew that the provision came from God, and she remembered that God had said, “Before they call, 1. will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear” (Isaiah 65:24). The widow’s heart was filled to overflowing with gratitude and joy, for tliis incident marked only the beginning of God's providence for her and for her children. She had learned the sweetest lesson of all life-to trust the Lord. She learned that it was not neces sary to ask God more than once for a need, for God knew the need even before the asking. She learned also that God meets more than bare need. He provides abun dantly, super-abundantly. ! God watches over his Word to perform it, and the very moment faith is revived in the human heart, God’s Word begins to come to pass. If you have any problem which is more than you can manage alone, place your complete trust in God, for "he careth for you." He will save your soul, heal your, body and provide for your every ! I need. ' - How much do you need?; j tees. In view of the great read- I justment in the Senate commit tees due to the elections it is ap propriate to discuss the matter i further. The Committees Senate Rule XXV governs com mittees. The majority of stand ing committees have fifteen mem bers. There are others with as many as twenty-three and a few with nine Senators. For this dis cussion we will consider the fif teen-member committee, such as Judiciary and Armed Services on which I have been serving. Dur ing the past Congress the party j division on each of these eommit j tees has been eight Democrats and •seven Republicans. In the new Congress beginning in January it is expected that the division along party lines will be around ten Democrats and five Republi cans. Major Readjustment It is obvious that this is a ma jor adjustment of committee per- ; sonnel which further underlines the heavy responsibility upon the Democratic Party for sound legis lation. By following a course of moderation the Democrats can I continue responsible leadership in the Senate. Back To Washington Due to the woik of wte Senate Treat Your Car to a Beauty Treatment!
