Never hang or (’rape the .flag in any position below the seats on a platform. 34. When used on a speaker’s platform, the flag if displayed flat, should be above and behind ‘the speaker. Use bunting to dec orate a speaker’s desk or the front of the platform. 35. When displayed on a staff in a church chancel, or on a speaker's platform, the U. S. Flag should be to the right of the cler gyman or speaker as he faces the congregation or audience. Any other flag should be to his left. If the staffed U. S. Flag is displayed elsewhere than in the chancel or on the platform it should be placed at the right front, and on the floor level with the congregation or audience as they face the chancel or plat form. Any other flag should be at the left front. 36. The U. S. Flag should nev er be used as a receptacle for re ceiving, holding, carrying or de livering anything. 37. The U. S. Flag should nev er have placed upon any part of it nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, work, figure, de sign, picture or drawing of any nature. 38. The flag should never be used for advertising purposes. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or hand kerchiefs. It should not be print-, ed or otherwise impressed on pa per napkins, tablecloths, boxes or anything designed for temporary use and discard. Flag has been 1 used as a casket cover it may, and should be displayed in every \ normal manner. | 41. When the flag is placed upon the grave, see that it will not touch the ground. Do not leave it there indefinitely. In Arlington and other National Cemeteries flags are removed the I following day. 42. A U. S. Flag may be mend ed, washed or dry cleaned. Fed {oral Code and proper usage pro vide that when the flag is so II badly torn, soiled or faded that jit is no longer a fitting emblem | for display it should be destroy ed in a dignified way, privately • and preferably by burning. 43. Any rule custom pertain ing to the display of the U. S. Flag may be changed or repealed, or additional rules may be pre i scribed hv the President of the j United States, acting as Com j mander-in-Chief of the armed | forces. Any such change shall be j set forth in a Presidential proc j lamation.
