However, each grower should examine his own cotton field and determine whether or not he needs to start dusting. This can be done by examining' 100 squares scattered all over the field, hold in the hand any punctured squares found and then counting the punctured squares when finished. If the punctured square count runs as much as five. I would start dusting. j Fourteen fields were examined on Monday by the Agent, coop erating 4-H Club members and cooperating growers. In seven fields no punctured squares were found. Three of the field had 1% and two fields 2% punctur ed squares. In Yeopim com munity one field had 19% in festation and at Hancock an other field had 10% infestation. These were the on’y farms Showing need for dusting. Red spider has occurred in one or two fields. Chowan 4-H Demonstration Teams very ably represented Chowan County in the District Elimination Day held at Wash ington, N. C., on July 1. The Forestry Team, composed of Joe Nixon and Leon Evans, was Dis trict winner and the Wildlife Team, composed of Johnny Win borne and Scott Ober, was Dis trict winner. Two other 4-H teams from Chowan County were placed in the blue ribbon group and the remainder of the teams were placed in the red ribbon group. We were very proud of the fact that the Chowan teams showed up wefll enough to be placed in me second and first groups. Credit for training the 4-H boys’ teams goes to former As sistant' County Agent R. S. Marsh and also local leaders and parents who assisted. Mr. Marsh i spent considerable time rehears ing the boys. Catherine Aman and her leaders and parents did a fine job coaching the girls’ demonstration teams. There Are Nine 4-H Campers from Chowan at Camp Millstone this week. Accompanying the campers are Miss Catherine Aman, Assistant Home Econo ics Agent and Sherwood Har rell, a former outstanding 4-H j Club member. Club members attend ; ng camp are Brenda White, Margaret] Rountree. Johnny Winborne, I Bryant White, Jimmy Ward, Dorsey Ward, Richard White, Jerry White and Fahey Byrum, Jr. The week will be packed full of pleasant experiences, recrea tion and class instruction for the i campers. Swimming periods will be held each day. The campers will return on Saturday after-j noon. I current contest closes July 20 j and will be the final month in j the spring event.
