City Is Grateful For Cooperation The Credit Bureau of Eliza beth City has extended its ap preciation to local merchants for their cooperation in supplying information to the bureau. In a recent letter to Chamber Exec utive Harry Smith, Jr., the man ager wrote “The merchants in Edenton are most cooperative in giving up the information need ed for clearance' on a prospec tive customer. The new credit granter needs to know something about his past paying Ihebits, and that information can only be given us by the merchant who has previously dealt with him. “Please thank your merchants for the Credit Bureau of Eliza beth City. Without their help to us many people who deserve credit would not be able to get it and, also, many people who do not deserve credit would ‘stick’ some other creditor.” Conservation Reserve Signup In Progress Continued from Page 1. Griffin re minded farmers that when they learn their farm maximum rate they will again be required to visit the county office to file a request for a contract. On the second visit to the ASC office the farmer must offer his land for placing in reserve at some thing less than the maximum rate previously established. The more the farmer reduces his bid bejow the maximum established, the better ihis chances of par ticipation. According to Grif fin funds available for new con j tracts in 1960 will be approxi mately half of what was avail able in 1959. For this reason farmers who offer their laind considerably below the maximum rate will stand a much better i chance of having their offers ac cepted. Farmers who are interested should not let the September 10 deadline pass without action.
