The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Layton. Sr., of Edenton, and Mr. Chappell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy S. Chappell of Hertford. The Rev. Bryan W. Hollo well, Jr., heard the pledge of vows in a setting formed by baskets of white gladioli, can delabras holding burning tapers and palms. Pews were marked with white satin bows. A recital of wedding music was presented by Earl Harrell, organist, and Jerry White, soloist. The bride, given in marriage by her brother, J. T. The bridegroom’s mother wore a pale blue dress of lace and linen with navy ac- Great Pocahontas To Visit Edenton i Council Sept. 10 'Mrs. Gladys Crisp Choco winity, Great Pocahontas of North Carolina, will make an official .visit to Chowanoke Coun cil, No. 54, Degree of Pocahontas, Thursday night, September 10. A buffet supper will be held in the Red Men hall at 7 o’clock, prior to the Council meeting. Mrs. Essie Perry, Pocahontas of the local Council, is very an xious to have every member of the Council attend. GUM POND PICNIC At the regular Gum Pond Club, meeting in August the club women, their husbands, families and other families in the com munity met at the cottage of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Smith on the Chowan River for an even ing of fun, fellowship and to enjoy a picnic supper. The table was spread with country ham, fried chicken, vege tables, sandwiches, home-made cakes and many other delicious country dishes. There were 58 present from the club and community, includ ing Mr. and Mrs. Percy Smith, Miss Catherine Aman, assistant home agent, and Harry Centers', new farm agent. Toward the end of the meal rain began to fall and the wo men began to hurry around I clearing the table and Mrs. Smith invited everyone into the house. Once inside, the club women held a short meeting to decide 1 whether or not to canvass for the Farm Bureau. They all voted to do this to help add to their club treasury.
