PAGE TWO Mueneir orb jam REPORTS c_ nuoimtin Washington The current controversy over the steel strike could easily bring about one of . the most serious economic crises s ace Vvorid War 11. In spite of some signs of en couragement about a settlement, both labor and management are preparing for a long and hard struggle. In the event a settlement is not reached by the time the 80- day back-tc-work injunction ex pires on January 26, I fed that Congress has no choice other than to enact legislation that will force a settlement. I hope that such action will not be required, but in the ab sence of a settlement it will ne cessary for Congress to exercise authority in the public interest. Should no agreement be reach ed by January 26 and the union members vote to walk ou* again, there is no provision in the pres ent law to keep the mills open. During the lIC-dny walkout that was ended with the ba k to-work injunction under the Taft-Hartiey Act. the serious ef fects of *he prolonged walkout were felt throughout the Nation. This cannot be repeated without putting our entire economy in serious jeopardy. There is much more involved than just a disagreement be tween labor and management in the steel industry. The s f eel in dustry itself involves a great many people, but more import ant. many other industries are largely dependent uoon the st”°l industry. The aivomobile. home nmyi nice, construction and many o'tier basic industries are direct ly related to our steel produc tion. Classified Ads BAD BREATH. EVEN ONIONS' Use breath-taking OLAG Toot!
