school. She was graduated from
Chowan College, where sihe ma
jored in French and English.
Mrs. Smiih was married to
Percy L. Smith on December 6,
1932, in Murfreesboro, The
ceremony was performed by her
brother, the Rev. G. Norman
Ashley of Salemburg, N. C.
Mrs. Smith, a charter member
of the BPW Club, has served as
chairman on both the hospitali
ty and finance committees. She
has taken part in many plan
nings of the chub and has spent
untold hours in the interest of
the beautification of a prize
project of the club, the Penelope
Barker house. She has also tak
en part in other constructive
projects of the numerous civic
organizations in Edenton and
Chowan County.
She is a member of the Eden
ton Baptist Church and for
many years was active in home
demonstration work. She is
manager of Byrum’s Gift Shop,
having served in this capacity
for five years.
The Edenton Restaurant was
beautifully decorated, even to a
lighted Christmas tree. The
party got under way with th
group singing “Silent Night”
with Mrs. Lena Leary at the
piano. Warren Twiddy gave the
invocation. Much fun was creat )
ed when the gifts were opened. I
followed by a delicious turkey
dinner. Mrs. Anne Jenkins, hos
pitality chairman, delivered tihe
l address of welcome and Dr. L.
. F. Ferguson responded with high
t praise for the club’s outstanding
i work.
Special) guests were acknowl
edged by Mrs. Jenkins. They
> included H. A. Campen, Mrs.
, Dave Holton and Mr. and Mrs.
: Elton Boswell.

songs by Miss Kay and Nelia
Lowe, accompanied at the piano
; by Miss Doris Jean Cale.

furnished music for the occas
ion.
The president extended a
“Merry Christmas” to all l pres
ent and the party closed with
the singing of “Joy To The
World.”
