he will graduate from the UNC
Summer School in 1960. He is
a member of Zeta Psi Fraterni
ty. He served two years in the
U. S. Marine Corps, 1957-59.
The bride’s father is president
of Gardner & Benoit, Inc. Mr.
Smith’s father prior to his death
was vice president of Burlington
Mills and also vice president of
Liberty Hosiery Mills.

Taxes on farm property have
increased sharply for the past
several years. Taxes on farm
real estate in 1960 are expected ‘
to equal or slightly exceed the'
5 per cent increase in 1959.
Prices of farm land have con- j
tinued to rise, especially in the[
South. Demand for land is'
strong and there are fewer j
farms on the market. This de- 1
mand and price trend will con-!
tinue in 1960.
Farm wage rates in mid-1959
were 9 per cent greater than last
year. With the expected com
petition from other segments of
the economy, this spiral will con
tinue.
