Hus is National 4-H Club
Week. The theme is “Learn—
Live —Serve Through 4-H”.
Today (Thursday) 4-H Club
members will visit you by radio,
to tell you some of their 4-H
experiences and about their
awkr
There are organized in the
county eighteen 4-H clubs w.th
a membership of 240 girls and
249 boys. Fifteen of these are
organized at our schools—White
Oak Consolidated, Eden ton High
and St. John. We have three
community 4-H Clubs—Center
Hill, Virginia Fork-Ryans G:ove
and Canaan Temple. These
clubs meet once each month
with agents present. Agents
present demonstrations in these
monthly meetings giving the lat
est research in home economics
and agriculture.
The work carried on in 4-H
clubs is quite varied. Every
thing is done to develop good
character and help make the
boys and girls into worthwhile
citizens. Members learn to be
leaders, they conduct meetings,
plan community projects, pre
sent programs. Boys and girls
carry varied projects in farm
ing, homemaking, community
service and other activities.
They are trained to judge crops,
livestock and products of the
farm and home as well as give
demonstrations. They learn how
to improve the health of the'
individual, family and communi
ty. 4-H’ers play and have fun, i
too, in their clubs and com
munities.
Boys and girls may be mem- 1
bers of a 4-H club from age
10 through 21. At this age their
minds are still plastic and what
they learn to do by doing be
comes a part of them. A dedi
cated 4*H club member does

promises to carry cut the Na-j
tional 4-H Club Pledge.

As you probably know by
now, in addition to ”neveiile|
with Roberts”, from 6 to 9:30, j
we now have an afternoon shi'wj
for you, Roberts and Records.!
It’s Monday through Friday,
from 1:30 to 3:45. What effect
will this have with our listen
ers? Well, I decided to make
like an inquiring reporter. Thej
results were interesting. Thej
question was: “Well, what do
you think of Frank Roberts al-J
so having an afternoon show?” !
Percy Goforth, tourist, trove:- j
ing through: “Isn’t there an-,
other way of gaing from New
. York to Florida? Like, I mean,
■ another highway?”
A leading Chamber of Com-
Imerce representative: “And

here.”
Ed Wynn Buffaloe, eminent
newspaper publisher: “This
should help our circulation con
j siderably.”
j James Earneasv, eminent mo-j
tion picture theatre manager:'
j’This might bring afternoon
1 movies back to Edenton.” -
Local highway patrolman:
. “Lately, I’ve given out more tic
kets to tourists speeding sw.ftly
through Edenton. We migh’
even up the • speed limits to
make it easy on ’em.”
Milton Lots, gas station own
et: “Now they’re filling up
bsrore they get to Eden-on, or
waiting until they get out of
town.”
Josephk Conga, oil man: “Nev
er thought I’d threaten to take
i gas.”
Richard ..Footman, eminent ra
-1 dio station owner: “We’ve had 1
many requests for Mr. Roberts
to do another radio show, in ad
dition to the one he already has.
I didn’t realize until too late
that the requests came from ri
val radio station owners.”
I
Next week, we might conduct
another man-in-the-street-type of
interview, although I seriously
doubt it.
Our closing quotation this
week, was originally panned by
Voltaire: “The discovery of what
is true and the practice of that
which is good are the two most
important objects of philosophy.” J
