New Vacation Book Is Now Available With over 100 illustrations in full color, the North Carolina “Variety Vaeationland” book for 1960 has just come off the press and is available free on request to the Advertising Divi sion, Department of Conservation and Development, Raleigh. The 64-page vacation guide covers the Variety Vaeationland state from the Great Smoky Mountains to Atlantic Ocean beaches. New scenes, never be fore presented in color, are in cluded along with new versions of old favorites. The cover depicts a vacation ing couple on the sand dunes of the Outer Banks, where the na tion’s first national seashore is a : new travel magnet. In lieu of the conventional 1 index, the book has a map of . Members present: May or John A. Mitchener, Jr., J. Ed win Bufflap. George A. Byrum, Luther C. Parks, W. C. Bunch, Jr., C. A. Phillips and R. Elton Forehand. Motion was made by George A. Byrum, seconded by J. Bid win Bufflap, and duly carried that Town purchase the B. G. Willis property at the foot of Broad Street for $5,700.00. Motion was made by Luther C. Parks, seconded by W. C. Bunch, Jr., and duly carried that the 1959-60 budget be amended as follows: Add the following item: B. G. Willis property, $3,000.00. Delete the following item: Architect for Municipal Build ing. $2,500.00. Change the following item: Beautification from $1,000.00 to $500.00. There being no further busi ness, the CoUricil adjourned. ERNEST J. WARD. JR., Clerk. Edenton. N. C. April 12, 1960. The Town Council met this day in regular session at 8 P. M. Members present: Mayor John A. Mitchener. Jr., J. E. Bufflap, George A. Byrum. Luther C. Parks, W. C. Bunch, Jr., C. A. Phillips and R. Elton Forehand. The meeting was called to or oer bv Mayor Mitchener. W. C. Bunch, Jr., gave the invoca tion. Minutes of the March" meet ings were approved as read. A report was made by Coun cilmen W. C. Bunch and R. El ton Forehand relative to double parking on various streets. Af ter discussion by the Council the following resolution was unanimously adopted: Parking will be allowed on West Albemarle Street only on the North side, except while a funeral is in process. If the funeral service is a large one, the Police Officer on duly will close the street during the ser vice. Parking will be allowed on the South side of West Gale Street except while a funeral is in process, parking will then be allowed on either side, the Town Clerk will advise the two colored funeral homes and the pastor of the Gale Street Bap tist Church to notify the Police Department as much as one hour in advance so the necessary arrangements can be made. The street will be closed, to all traf fic while funerals are in pro cess. Parking will be allowed on the North side of West Eden Street only. The Street Department will be notified to mark off a place on the North side of Eden Street, in front of the drive ways and on the south side also paint the curb yellow. Parking will be allowed on either side of South Granville Street at the Baptist Church on Sundays and special occasions. The pastor and the Board of deacons of the church will be notified so that it can be an nounced in church that no park ing will be allowed on both sides of the street except on Sundays, and special occasions at which time the Police De partment must be notified in advance. Parking will be allowed on the North side of West Church Street between Granville and Mosely except while a funeral is in process. The Town Clerk will notify the two colored fVm eral homes and the pastor. When a funeral is in process the street will be closed. (Provi dence Baptist Church.) Parking will be allowed on East Church Street at St John’s Episcopal Church for weddings and funerals only. The police will notify the resi dents on West Albemarle Street,! West Gale Street, West Church Street between Granville and Mosely that a funeral will be held on that street giving time 1 and date. Motion was made by W. C. Bunch, Jr„ seconded by Luther! C. Parks, and duly carried that the Clerk be directed to begin advertising for delinquent taxes! for the year 1999 on May 16, 1960 and that a tax sale be held on June 13, 1960. Motion was made by George A. Byrum, seconded by C. A. Phillips, and duly carried that the following ordinance be adopted: Vehicles must stop and yield the right-of-way to all traffic traveling on Broad Street. When sipns have been placed, erected and installed at Queen and Broad and Church and Bmad, Broad Street will lie designated as the main traveled or through highway. It shall be unlawful for the driver of anv vehicle to fail to stop in obedience thereto and yield the right-of-way to ve hicles operating on the designat ed main traveled or through highway. Failing to stop, how ever. shall be considered con tributory negligence per so in any action at law for injury to person or property. Any person violating this sec tiion shall be guilty of a mis demeanor and upon conviction shall be fined not to exceed fif ty dollars ($50.00) or imprisoned not to exceed thirty (30) days or both. Motion was made by J. E. Bufflap, seconded by L. C. Parks, and duly carried that' the following ordinance be' adopted: * It shall be unlawful for any! driver of a motor vehicle to! proceed from a parked position* into the path of approaching traffic without seeing that such, movement can l>e made in safe ty. Anv .person violating this section shall lit' guiltv Os a mis demeanor and upon conviction shall be fined not to exceed fifty dollars ($50.00) or imprison ed not to exceed thirty (30) days or both. Motion was made by L. C. Parks, seconded by J. E. Bufflap and duly carried that Electric & Water Dept, bills in the amount of $24,676.74 be paid. Motion was made by R El ton Forehand, seconded by C.
