Roberts of Currituck County, secretary and Mrs. Bertha B. Cahoon of Camden County, treasurer. W. Frank Sanding of Moyock will serve as advisor. The other delegates include Roy Perry and Fred Markham, Jr. of Pasquotank County; Wal ter G. Edwards and George W. Jackson of Perquimans County, Dudley Bagley and Mrs. Norma Romn of Currituck County and Ben Sanderlin of Camden Coun ty- The first project of the new council will be that of working in conjunction with the Eliza beth City Chamber of Com merce to set up a temporary jdisplav of museum objects col lected in the area and to hold I the first dinner meeting with | Pasquotank County as host. The tentative place for the display is the Elizabeth City High School gymnasium some i time in June. Local residents with the as sistance of their various com i mittee chairmen and others, will ibe responsible for collecting the various objects from their par j ticular counties and for setting up their displays. ! Roberts, Moyock, •lor further information, j “Ye Counties of Albemarle” was one of the only two coun ties permasently organized in .North Carolina prior to 1667, the other being Craven, embracing | “the territory south of Cape Ro maine.” I Albemarle County was created in 1663, and named for George Monch, Duke of Albemarle, and embraced “the territory lying north and northwest of Albe marle Sound.” In October, 1667, Samuel Stephens was appointed as the first governor. The present counties of Curri jtuck, Pasquotank, Perquimans , and Chowan were the first four divisions made from the original Albemarle. ! Later divisions include Cam jden, formed in 1777 from Pas -1 quotank; Bertie formed in 1722 I from Chowan; Tyrrell formed in H 729 from Chowan, Bertie. Cur rituck and Pasquotank; Hertford ■ formed in 1759 from Chowan, j Bertie and Northampton; Gates 'formed in 1779 from Chowan. Perquimans and Hertford. Part of Currituck was an nexed to Hyde in 1745 (Lake j Mattamusket); part of Hatteras ■ Banks, adjoining Currituck, but without the bounds of any coun ty (some recordsi in Currituck Court House), was annexed to Carteret in 1770; part of Curri tuck was annexed to Hyde in 1823, (south of New Inlet); Dare formed in 1870 from Currituck, Tyrrell and Hyde. Also Edgecombe formed in 1741 from Bertie; Granville formed in 1746 from Edge combe; Halifax formed in 1758 from Edgecombe; Nash formed in 1777 from Edgecombe; Wil son formed in 1855 from Edge combe, Nash, Johnston and | Wayne.
