“It Shall be unlawful to snore,
land, dock, anchor or tie any
commercial type of boat or ves
sel exceeding 30 feet in length
within the water of the Town
of Edenton abutting any resi
dential district. Violation of this
ordinance shall constitute a mis
demeanor and the owner of
such boat or vessel shall bej
punished by a fine of not more
than SSO or imprisonment for
not more than 30 days. It is
further provided that each day|
during which such violation shall
continue shall constitute a sep
arate offense.”
A complaint was registered in
connection With the Hobowskv
junk yard on East King Street
and the matter will be referred
to the Health Department for
action.
The Councilmen entered no
objection to. the application of
Willie Overtop who has applied
for a permit to sell beer on the
premises at Overton's Restaurant
on Oakum Street.
J. P. Ricks, Jr., who was re
cently appointed director of Civil
Defense for Chowan County, was
also appointed to the same po
sition for Edenton.
A request for an appropriation
toward the expense of a trip
‘to Washington by the John A.
Holmes Band was denied. The
present condition of the budget
was the reason for not making
a contribution.
The Councilmen also consider
ed the erection of markers in
Pembroke Creek for the benefit
of boat enthusiasts.

of B. D. Chambless, a Marine,
who was electrocuted while he
was assisting in raising a tele
vision antenna on -Johnston
Street. The antenna fell on a
power line causing his death.
The Virginia Electric & Power
Company was charged with neg
ligence, but the jury found the
victim also guilty of contribu- 1
tory negligence, so that no'
award of damages was granted. 1
The plaintiff noted an appeal
to the Supreme Court. ,
