Hatchery at Edcnton Monday
afternoon went off without a
hitch, so that all who attended
were impressed with the pro
gram as arranged under the
leadership of Mayor John Milth
cncr. who was assisted by mem
bers of Town Couneil and ethers
wlvo were pressed into service
for the affair.
The program began with a
free fish fry on the old fish
hatchery grounds, where all
were filled iieforc adjourning to
flic site of the new fish hatrh
m. The invocation at the fish
fiy was by the Rev. George B.
Holmes, rector of St. Paul's Epis
copal Church and prior to the
local afforded an opportunity for
a season of fellowship, when
many exchanged greetings.
Officials from many nearby
towns were present for the oc
t casioiv as well as prominent gov-
cm mem officials, not to leave
out a goodly number of Edcn
ton people.
At the new fish hatchery the
John A. Holmes High School
Band presented a half hour con
cert, which was well received by
the crowd gathered under a hot
sim. The colon s wny presented
and the American flag raised by
a contingent front the local Na
tional Guard unit. The Rev.
George Holmes again offered the
invocation.

Edenton Build Wins First Place
In Huge Washington Parade
TV John A Holmes High
School Band was awarded first
place as the best appearing unit
in the fifth division of the Na
tional Safety Patrol Parade in
Washington. D. C„ last Satur
day. There were seven divisions
in the five hour long parade
which featured more than sixty
bands. The fifth division was
composed of units from North
Carotin*. South Carolina and
West Virginia.

dent body at John A. Holmes
High School on Friday elected
Student Council officers for 11k
1960-61 term. The affair had al'
the aspects of a regular election
for political office, with cam
paign managers for various can
didates using all legitimate
means possible to round up
votes for his particular candi
date.
It was even necessary for stu
dents to register in order to lie
eligible to cast, a ballot in llv
election.
After the smoke had cleared
the following emerged as win ]
ners: Jimmy Rogerson, presi
dent; Mac Wright, vice president,

Lloyd Overton Hurt
In Tank Accident
Lloyd Overton of the Yeopim
section met. with a serious ac
cident Monday morning aqd was]
admitted to Chowan Hospital as
a result.
Mr. Overton sustained a skull
fraetifrc and eye injury when
pressure built up in the tank
on a corn sprayer, blowing the
lid off and striking him in the
face. While lie suffered a great
deal of pain, lie is reported In
be making satisfactory progress.
