"Obstacles and hurdles must be overcome." said the speaker, '"and hardships present a challenge. Stumbling blocks Should be only stepping stones in your life which lies ahead if you possess the determination and will to succeed.” Another challenge was to be a maximum person. "It is very easy to be a minimum person," Mr. Holt said. "There are those ■who are blessed with so many possibilities, but are content in just doing enough to get by. A person should not be satisfied to be a minimum person but should use what he has to change the course of history and raise the standards of living." To em phasize his point, he cited the parable of the talents. Another challenge pointed out was perseverance and courage. “I urge you to exercise initiative and determination.” he said, "put all of your energy, time, talents and ability to such use so that you need not apologize to any person how you have lived and what you have done. In closing. Dr. Holt said, "May God bless you as you face a new life.” Class night exercises were held Tuesday night, when vari ous awards were presented. Cobb ixanptained that 20 Re ! publican voters were registered !at Chowan County and that 1 three' of them sought to vote, but no ballots were provided. Cobb's charge to the State Board of Elections is the first attack by the Republican par ly in recent years on election i practices in eastern counties. I Most of the charges of election irregularities in the past have been aimed at western counties, especially Madison County where there are a targe number of Re publicans. Cobb said the usual practice of the North Carolina Board of I Elections in dismissing com plaints by the minority party with a chuckle can no longer be condoned. He referred to the situation in Chowan County as "shocking'. He suggested that Board of Elections members do some soui-searehing and ask j themselves how long they will| allow the majority party to trample under foot the guaran teed rights of the citizens of North Carolina. Both Mr. Bvrum and P. S. McMullan. another member of the Chowan County Board of Elections, stated that the lack of Republican ballots at the pri mary election was due to an oversight. 7HS CKGWAI?
