Master Sergeant and Mrs. El liott C. Phelps and son of Den ver, Col., arrived on Monday of last week to spend sometime with Mrs. Phelps’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Baker. Mr. and Mis. Linwood Bunch and R. J. Mitchell made a trip to Kecoughtan, Va„ last Wed nesday. Mr. Mitchell entered Veterans Hospital for treatment Miss Marie Small of Edenton was an over-night guest of Anna Raya White on Wednesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs Linwood Bunch spent Tuesday in Farmville on business. Albert Baker of Los Angeles. Cal., arrived last week to spend sometime visiting relatives and friends. Marie Small of Edenton, Anna Raye White and Ann Smithwick made a trip to Ahoskie Thurs day. Mrs. W. T. Davis spent Thurs day in Edenton visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rogerson. Becky Bunch is standing a few days visiting Barbara Sen tell in Chowan County. Mrs. Vergie Baker made a trip to Chapel Hill Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Cobb of Elizabeth City. Kenneth Cobb of Elizabeth City is spending sometime with his grandmother, Mrs. T. E. White. Johnnie Bell Smithwick of Elizabeth City spent Monday with his mother, Mrs. J. D. Smithwick. Mrs. Sallie Adams is a patient in Bertie Memorial Hospital at Windsor. This farm is located about 10 miles north of Edenton on N. C. 32 near Evans Methodist Church. Plans are to show farmers j what they can do to improve their woodlands and increase their farm income. E. W. Looney, district forester, N. C. Fo.est Service, will show how to control “weed” trees by chemical and mechanical meth ods. M., Monday, June 20. 1960 follows: Killed To Date 503 Killed To Date Last Year 515 j County News j Rocky Hock Baptist Church had a good vacation Bible school this year. The average attend ance daily was 215 with a high attendance of 229 on Tuesday. Eleven juniors joined the church. Mrs. O. C. Long, Jr., was principal of this fine school. The pastor, the Rev. Thurman Allred and many more good! teachers and leaders made it; possible for children to go each day. Murray Tynch’s bus ran each day, driven by Mrs. Mar vin Smith. The circles of the church served refreshments each day. Commencement ex ercises were held Sunday night at the church with a large at tendance. Mrs. H. L. Leary of Tyner, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Leary of Edenton, Mr. and Mrs. Trot Leary, Mr. and Mrs. Troy Top pin, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Hollo well of Tyner attended the Leary-Warren wedding on Sun day in Lillington. N. C. Ballard’s Bridge vacation Bible school had a very success ful school. They had a very good attendance. Miss Esther Elliott of Aulan der is visiting Mrs. Liza El liott. Mrs. Maude Powell and Miss Maude Lee Corprew visited Mrs. Minnie Corprew Sunday. Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock the Rocky .Hock RA’s will play ball with Ballard’s Bridge RA’s at Chowan High School. Miss Becky Harrell, Miss Mary Alice Perry and Miss Beu lah Evans will attend music week at Ridgecrest soon. Stanford Perry of Suffolk spent Saturday night with his mother. Alfred Perry was a Sunday guest of Mr. and Mrs. Roland ! Evans. Annie Hollowell Circle met Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Charlie Asbell at Tyner. Mary Ann Hare has returned home from her trip to Girls’ State at Woman’s College. Mrs. Nancy Carson will soon be leaving radio station WCDJ to work on television station WUNC-TV in Chapel Hill. She will be greatly missed in the county by those who listened to her daily program. Friday night at 8 o’clock the young people’s choral group of Rocky Hock Church will meet at the community center. BYRUM, Chairman | New Enforcement Policy For Patrol The North Carolina State i Highway Patrol is now in a new J and aggressive era in motor ve-1 hide law enforcement. This type of enforcement is called “Selective Enforcement.” Seioc- j tive enfoi cement is the enforce ment of the "hazardous viola tions” that are killing and crip pling more people each day. The principle of selective en forcement xs a concentration of manpower and equipment in the areas that the most accidents oc cur and at the time that the ac cidents have been occurring. The State Highway Patrol has for the last two weeks and dur ing this week concentrated their efforts in certain areas where accidents have been occurring. The new enforcement plan calls for each member of the Highway Patrol to stop and check the operator's license, reg istration and (Condition of a ve hicle on an average of one ve hicle every 15 minutes.
