NEWLYWEDS HONORED

place June 10. were honored on I

miscellaneous shower given by ,
Mesdames Merschall Stallings.

Upon arrival of the guests,
which were many, they viewed
the gifts, which were numerous,
then thev were invited to the ,
dinette for delicious punch, cake,
ice cream, mints and nuts. The
serving table, covered with white
linen cloth, was centered with .
a three-tier wedding cake 'and
crystal candelabra, holding red
and white candles. Red and
white gladiolus were used
throughout the house to create j
a festive air for the occasion.
The bride was presented a cor
sage of red and white gladiolus
upon her arrival. (

presided at the punch bowl and
were assisted in serving bv Mrs. 1

Maude Lane and Mrs. Beulah
Stallings. After an enjoyable
evening the guests departed with
goodbyes spoken bv Mesdames

Married In Burgess Church

Burgess Baptist Church was
the scene oi a wedding charac
terized by simplicity and charm
when Miss Emily Anne Lane be
came the bride of Wilbur Ray
Bass.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Walton
Lane of Hertford. The bride
groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Carey A. Bass of Edenton.
The Rev. A. J. McClelland,
pastor of the bride, performed
the ceremony in a setting of
white gladiolas, mums, chrysan
themums, palms and ferns, light
ed by cathedral candles,
Mrs. Rufus Marion Riddick of
Hertford presented the nuptial
music, using the traditional wed
ding marches and accompanied
Johnnie Phillips, soloist, who
s-ang "Because” and “The Wed
ding Prayer" as a benediction.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, was lovely in a
traditional wedding gown of
peau de soie taffeta and chan
tilly lace. The empire bodice,
designed with a sabrina neck
line fastened down the 'back
with self-covered buttons and re
embroidered with seed pearls.
The long sleeves ended in wed
ding points over the hands. The
voluminous skirt swept grace
fully into a chapel length train.
Her fingertip veil of imported
silk illusion was attached to a
cascade pearl scalloped crown
with sequins and peari high
lights. She carried a white Bi
ble topped with a purple-thi-oat
ed orchid and showered with
stephanotis tied with love knots.
Mrs. James Jordan, sister of
the bride, was matron of honor.
She wore a ballerina length
gown of blue, soie nylon organza
over taffeta, fashioned with a
very bouffant skirt. A sash of
matching taffeta formed a cum
merbund in front of the dress
and tied in the back, reaching
