Rivalry Very Keen
In Colored Leagues
Rivalry of the organized teams
of the colored playground is be
coming increasingly acute, so
-much so that a large crowd is
daily on hand to witness the
play of the youngsters who. at
times, pull off big league stuff.
The Dodgers of the All Am
erican League maintain a lead
of two games over the fast step
ping Blue Jays, who won them
selves a trip to Sunset Lake I
Amusement Park near Norfolk!
by defeating the Dodgers twice |
last week. In the first game the!
Dodgers scored seven runs in the I
bottom of the first inning but'
were held scoreless the remaind-1
er of the tilt while the Blue
Jays scored one run in each in-)
ring until the game ended at
t-7 and '•called on account of
darkness to be continued the
following day and ended in the
10th inning in favor of the Blue 1
Jays, who scored three big runs
in this inning, beating the Dodg
ers for the first time in the hot
campaign. On Thursday it hap
pened again when the Jays
crushed the mighty Dodgers to a
tune of 4-0 to move within two
games off first place.
The lonely Sluggers cannot
seem to get out of the cellar.
They are a good ball club, but
With two of their players sus
pended, they lack the punch to
pUll. themselves over the hill.
With these ineligible players re- .
instated, a lot of drive is ex-1
pected to develop in the loop. I

teams played three extra in- 1
nings between the Giants and |
Tigers with the Tigers winning I
3-4. Two extra innings were ne

The Pony League baseball
team journeyed to Roper Tues
day night for a game with the
Roper team and won by a score
of 7-6. Pitchers were Bill Leary,
Paul Gregory and Jack Gaskins.
The next game will be played
with Ahoskie next Thursday.
