Washington The Senate has
resumed its session after time j
out for both party nominating i
conventions returning a week ,
ahead of the House.
How Long? Prior to re
cessing on July 2. it was gen
erally' agreed that only a limit- j
ed number of bills on which i
action was not completed would
be taken up in the period after
the recess. Among the bills
suggested for action were for
eign aid funds, medical care far
the aged, federal aid to schools
and minimum wage, It was felt
that some of these matters I
could be disposed of prior to
Labor Day. Now it is uncer
tain.
My thought has been express- j
ed before on this procedure. l
In substance my idea was. and j
is, that no action should be
taken on much of the tegisla-j
tion at this time in view of the
highly-charged political atmos- j
phere in Congress. Apparently j
this course will not be follow- 1

dential candidates, one Vice-
Presidential candidate, and both
party chairmen in the Senate
of the United States. It ap
pears that visitors will over
flow the galleries to witness
this history-making session. Af
ter the session settles down 11
believe it will be able to pre- >
diet the adjournment date, and
1 hope the session can be quick
ly completed. This course would'
seem to be the best for the
country. After all. next Janu
ary will provide an opportunity
for more calm debate.
