party on Saturday night,. Octo
ber 29, and they will also'shar e
their blessings with children
Who are less fortunate.
These children will share the
{Holiday this year by Tr .t &
{Treat for UNICEF an; the
world’s needy children. Each
coin collected by Trick or Treat
ers will mean medicine or food
for the sick and hungry chil
dren of the world.
Members of the 4-H Club will
wear a UNICEF tag and hand
out brochures of UNICEF to
identify themsc.ves, and they
Ipiow that each coin they col
lect means health and hope for
children who would lead a short
sick and hungry life if they re
ceived no help.
The community is urged to co
operate with these 4-H club
members when they kqock on
doors next Saturday night. It
j means that the only “trick”
' these young visitors want to
play is to obtain “treats” of
coins that will mean treatment
and nourishment for children
less fortunate than themselves.

the proposed project.”
The Couneilmen have been
exploring the idea of a lagoon
system for sewage disposal as
well as the Hildebrand system
which is more or less in the
experimental stage by German
manufacturers. The Couneilmen
have inquired and received
many letters concerning the la
goon system in various parts of
the country and all of them
were to the effect that the .sys-
Sn is working satisfactorily.
>wever, the town’s engineer,
\ George Freeman, as well as state
health authorities have released
no encouraging reports ebneern
ing them.
The Hildebrand systems dis
pose of the sewage by chemicals
and the Couneilmen in a round
about way were informed that
a test plant would be installed
for SI,OOO for a period of trial.
However, not much information
is available about this system.
The Couneilmen are somewhat
reluctant to proceed with a bond
election to construct a plant on
base property untH evjery ef
fort is made to determine if a
satisfactory method can be ob
tained at a much lower cost.
It was agreed to ask for a
conference with the State
Stream Sanitation Committee to
explain Edenton’s position in the
matter in the hope of securing
a system that will be satisfac
tory at as reasonable a price as
y possible before calling for a
||ond election.
Another matter which was
definitely disposed of was an
increase in the cost of lots in
Beaver Hill Cemetery. A list
of prices of cemetery lots in
quite a few neighboring towns
was presented and Edenton was
among the lowest.
It was agreed, therefore to
raise the price of 8-grave lots
from SBO to $125 for Edenton
residents and from $l2O to $225
for out of town people.
The 4-grave lots were raised
from S4O to $62.50 for Edenton
residents and from S6O to $112.50
for out of town people.
Single lots were increased
from $8 to $25 for Edenton resi
dents and from sl2 to SSO for

Another matter considered was
zoning that portion on U. S. 17,
north which was recently taken
into the town. The matter was
considered some months ago, but
some opposition developed rela
tive to the class of zoning to be
adopted. Geddes Potter, Chair-j
man of the Zoning Commission,
was called in and after consid
ing the matter pro and con, Mr.
Potter agreed to call a meet
ing of the Commission and con
tact the property owners affect
ed to determine which class is
to be used.
The Couneilmen also consid
ered a number of complaints
about the Hobowsky junk yard
on East King Street but no ac
tion was taken.
Before the meeting adjourned
Town Clerk Ernest Ward read
a detailed report concerning
general administration proced
ures, policies and practices that
have been in use during the past
several years since has has been
Town Clerk.
The report covered finances,
which are in good condition, as
well as Street Department, Po
lice and Fire Department activi
ties. The Couneilmen thanked
Mr. Ward for the splendid re
port, which will be of consid
erable value after he leaves the
position.
