Four-H Achievement Program Held: I was thrilled with the 1960 4-H Achievement Program held at Chowan Community Building last Thursday night. Accomplishments were good, in terest was high and attendance very good. Awards were presented coun ty project winners. Leon Evans was presented as State winner in Forestry Project which gives him an all-expense-paid trip to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago, November 26 to De cember 2. Adult 4-H leaders were recognized and awarded certificates of service. I congratulate the 4-H mem bers, the adult leaders, the par ents and others on an excellent vrar in the Chowan County 4-H Club program and activities. Each year the contestants and their dads look forward to the ban quet. The contest has been one means of bringing our town and country closer together. Chowan County Annual Farm Bureau Meeting: The annual meeting of the Chowan County Farm Bureau was held at Cho wan High School Wednesday evening. The event started with a fish fry at 5:00 o’clock with approximately 250 in attendance. Following the fish fry, approxi mately 75 people attended the annual meeting in the audi torium. President Eugene Jordan pre sided at the meeting. Field Representative William Little presented a very impressive talk on “Making Tne Farm Bureau Active In Your County.” Mr. Little explained how important it is for each member to take an active part in the county or ganization. The County Com j modity Committee channels its resolutions and recommendations to the State Committees and they in turn to the National Committees of the organization. Woodrow Lowe was elected president for Hie 1960-61 year, “kiSS ZS&SOm HESALA KGAT3 CASOLISA. TKunSwAT. NOVEMBER If. IMB. —i.' 11 »—i 1 George Lewis was elected vice president and- David Bateman was elected secretary-treasurer. New members of the board of directors elected for a two-year term were John B. Byrum, Mar vin Evans, Carl Ober and Thomas P. Griffin. Board mem bers to serve their second year are Dallas Jethro, Jr!, T. O. As bell, N. D. Chappell and Bristoe Perry. As retiring president, Eugene Jordan becomes a mem ber of the board for this year. Membership drive chairman, Bristoe Perry, reported 214 mem berships received to date and that there are possibly a few memberships more not received yet. The county membership goal is 235 members. The coun ty Negro organization is work ing but Mr. Perry did not have a report from them. We feel that the county quota will be reached this week. It was inspiring to have about thirty Edenton merchants attend the annual meeting. Under the leadership of George Lewis, the merchants group made a farm tour which ended at 'he fish fry and meeting. Such activi ties bring our town and country people closer together for better understanding and closer rela tionship. ■» Lunch Room Menu i * n ■_ i 1 * Menus at John A.
