U4OBCTION OKB PAGE TWO Aces And Acelets Capture Twin Bill Over Chowan High By BILL GOODWIN The Edenton Aces basketball team put in one session of prac tice Monday and then took a thrilling 38-36 overtime victory over Chowan’s Bulldogs on the latter’s court Tuesday night. The veteran-studded Acelets came through with a 48-38 win on the 30-point performance of Beverly Morgan. Fred Britton’s hook shot in the final seconds of the regula tion game kept the Aces even ' ■ and sent the contest into an extra three-minute period. Bob by Stokely then sank a jump shot with less than thirty sec onds to go and wrapped up the game. The first quarter ended with the Bulldogs in front by only three to two. The Aces open ed their guns in the second pe riod to take a 15-9 lead into the half. Both teams scored 16 points in the third stanza be fore Chowan caught up and went ahead with less than a minute left. Britton’s hook kept Eden ton in the game. Bill Goodwin had 12 points to lead the Aces’ scoring. Stokely made 8, Jerry Tolley 7, Herbert Adams 5, Wayne Griffin 3, Brit ton 2, and Richard Hollowell one. Goodwin and Griffin fouled out of the contest. Copeland took honors for both sides with 22 points for Chowan. Asbell had 7, Turner 3. and Modlin and Toppin two each. Morgan, a lanky forward for the Aces took honors for the night with her 30-point output. The Acelets led 17-6 at the first fuarter mark, 28-19 at the half and 37-34 at the end of three periods. Edenton pulled away for keeps in the final quarter. Sara Relfe Smith followed Morgan with 13 tallies, and Mary Anne Overton scored five.
