Duke, Edenton’s sen ior National Guard officer who commands the Combat Support Co., 2nd Battle Group, 119th In fantry. Here in Edenton the Guard is represented by the Combat Sup port Company. The ranks of this unit is filled with local citi zens whose normal pursuits en compass a wide variety of ac tivities. Organized and trained to car ry out a federal mission in war time, the Guard in peacetime enjoys “dual status” as a state force under the command of the Governor. As such it is a train ed_ force immediately available in- loeaT emergencies such a$ floods, riots, forest fires, explos ions and hurricanes. “We of the National Guard,” says Capt. Duke, “are ready for any call. We are ready now.” Edenton Jayvees Down Williamston Edenton Jayvees defeated Wil liamston Friday by a score of 35 to 27. The Edenton boys were led by Jay (The Tomer) Ross, who bagged 15 points. Next was Dickie Cobb with 8 points. At half time the score was tied 15-15, but in the second half l the Edenton boys showed consid erable improvement, led by the play-making of Bill Bootwright. Aside from the above two lead ind scorers, Mitchell scored 3, Ashley 2, Johnston 3 and El liott 1. The victory stretched the Jay vees’ record to 13 wins and one defeat.
