Iredell Houses Will Be Opened
For Visitors During Pilgrimage
The James Iredell and the
> James Iredell, Jr., houses will be
open for the Pilgrimage of Co
lonial Edenton and Countryside,
April 14-16.
This will be the first time that
, the Iredell, Jr., house has been
open in over 250 years. Both
houses are similar in plan and
I architecture.
I These houses, along with a
number of other historic homes
and buildings, will be open to
| the public for the three days
of the tour from 10 A. M., to
noon and from 2 P. M„ to 5
P. M„ Friday and Saturday and
l from; 2 P. M„ to 5 P. M„ Sun-
I day.
| James Iredell was appointed
(i Associate Justice of the U. S.
Supreme Court by George Wash
-1 ington in 1790. In his home
the Marcus letters, which had
a great deal to do with the sign
ing Os the Constitution, were re
| written.
Iredell, Jr., took possession of
the house on West King Street
about 1820 as a home and law
office. The law office is now
used 1 as a den and has the same
| book shelves used by Iredell for|
his law books. He disposed of
all of his Edenton property
| i shortly after he became Gov
ernor of North Carolina.
’i Futures of interest in both
- houses are the high mantels with
narrow shelfs, paneling, wide,
floor. boards and hardware.
