James Bond Files
For City Treasurer
James Bond late last week
filed with L. S. Byrum, chair
man of the Chowan County
Board of Elections, as a candi
date for re-election as treasurer
for the Town of Edenton in the
May 2 election.
Mr. Bond was appointed
treasurer in 1956 to fill the un
expired term of W. H. Gardner,
who died while in office, and
had no opposition in the 1957
and 1959 elections.
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED
The Rev. and Mrs. Thurman
W. Allred, Route 1, Edenton,
announce the engagement of
their daughter, Barbara Eliza
beth, to Edsel O. King of Ra
leigh. Mr. King is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. G. T. King of Ty
ner, and is employed by Fed
eral Aviation Agency in Ra
leigh.
The wedding is planned for

Mrs. W. D. Holmes, Sr., and the

ADVANCE 4-H MEETS

The April meeting of the Ad
vance Community 4-H Club was
held Monday night, April 10, at
the community building. The
4-H pledge was repeated and
the minutes were read by the
secretary.
The club was delighted to
have a visiting 4-H’er from Cen
ter Hill, Emmett Jones, Jr., to
help Hairy Venters with a dem
onstration on the ‘'Care of Mo
tors”. They pointed out the
reasons an electric motor should
receive proper oare and showed
how to cl,ean an electric motor.
Nelia Lowe gave a report on
the bake sale that the girls held
last month, and it was learned
that $30.39 was mgade. * Jack
Perry gave a report on the boys’
scrap iron collection and then
the project of landscaping the
community grounds was dis
cussed.
Ann Castelloe presented a
program entitled “Don’t Sell the
Good Name of 4-H”. Those tak
ing part on the program were
Carroll Forehand, Ivy Lowe and
Nelia Lowe.
For recreation, Harry Venters
and Miss Catherine Aman, as
sistant agents, showed a film on
“Highlights of Basketball at-
North Carolina Staite,” and
