Applications for 4-H Camp at
Millstone, June 12-17, have come
in at a fast rate. We have a
quota of 20 and already have
33 applications. We are trying
to get an increase in our quota
to take care # of the additional
applicants. . ■
The enterprise Community 4-H
Club was organized last week
at a meeting at the home of Ms.
and Mrs. Morris Small,’ Route 1,
Edenton. Adult leaders for this
new club are: Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Hare, Mr. and Mrs. Morris
Small and Sid White. Officers
elected are; President, Jerry
i' White; vice-president, ' Marvin
Hare; secretary-treasurer, Car
men Goodwin; reporter, Cal
Goodwin; song leaders, Judy
White and Mike Overton.
The Ryl&nd Community 4-H
Club was organized last week
at a meeting at the home of
Mr. and Djlrs. Deroy Bunch, Ry
land. Adult leaders for this club
are: Mr. and Mrs. Deroy. Bunch,
Mrs. Hubert Byrum and Mrs.
Raymond). Dail. Officers elect
ed are: President, Judy 'Leake; l
vice-president, Hubert , Byrum;
secretary-treasurer, Lirida Fore
hand; reporter, Arlyn Dail, and
song leaders, Carol and Durwood
Copeland.
In both the Ryland and En
terprise communities, the Com
munity Development organiza
tion will sponsor these 4-H
Clubs for-this year. NThese com
munity 4-H Clubs can do much
to improve their communities
through community projects. The
Oak Grove 4-H’ers have as their
project the improvement Hol
ly’s Wharf. As most you
know, this is a recreatibn area
used not only by people living
in the Oak Grove community
but other communities as well.
The Oak Grove 4-H?ers have
already hauled in diflt and
spread it and marked off a
parking area. Damages done by
last fall’s hurricanes ’ have been
repaired. Plans now call for
adding another picnic'grill,
beaches and. further improving
the actual swimming
The Oak Grove 4-H adult
leaders and members are plan
ning a chicken barbecue Supper
for May 17. The proceeds from
this supper will be used for ad
ditional improvements to Holly’s
-Wharf. They hope to receive a
lot of support for this supper.
Tickets are now on sale from
any Oak Grove 4-H’ef or from
any of the adult leaders, Mr.
and Mrs. Percy Nixon, Mr. and
Mrs. Marion Bunch, Mr. and
Mrs. Marvin Evans or Mrs. Jesse
Lane. Buy these tickets . when
approached or call for qne and
then enjoy the recreation at
Holly’s Wharf this summer.

BOND ORDER AUTHORIZING
THE ISSUANCE OF $289,000
SCHOOL BONDS OF THE
OLUNTY OF CHOWAN.
WHEREAS, the Chowan Coun
*ty ißoard of Education and the
Edlnton City Board of Educa
tion have determined that the
existing school plant facilities in
their respective units are not
adequate for the mantenance of
public schools, and each of said
Boards has determined that the
additional schopl plant facilities
to be constructed in its respec
tive unit as hereinafter set forth
are necessary- to enable the
County of Chowan, as an ad
ministrative agency of the pub
lic school system of the State
of North Carolina, to maintain
public schools in such unit, and
has requested the Board of Com
missioners to provide the re
spective sum herein authorized
to be expended for Such addi
tional school* plant facilities;
NOWy THEREFORE,
BE IT' ORDERED by the
Board of Commissioners of the
County of Chowan as follows:
Section 1. The Board of Com
missioners of the County 'of Cho
wan has ascertained and hereby
determines that it is necessary
to reconstruct, enlarge and alter
'the- existing building used for
County High School,
in order to enable the County
of Chowan, as an administrative
agency of the! public schoo} sys
tem of the .Stite of North Caro
lina, to maintain public schools
in jSfcowan County Administra
tive Unit for the school term

to finance the cost of providing
said school facilities.
Section 2. The Board of Com
missioners of the County of Cho-,
wan has ascertained and hereby
determines that it is necessary to
reconstruct, enlarge and alter the
existing building used for the
Edenton High School, and to in
stall proper drainage facilities
and covered walkways, and to
erect an addition to the build
ing used for the John A. Holmes
High School, in order to enable
the County of Chowan, as an
administrative agency of the
public school system of the
State of North Carolina, to
maintain public schools in Eden
ton City Administrative Unit fbr
the school term prescrbed by
law, and that it will be neces
sary to expend for such purposes
not less than $201,000 in addition
to other moneys which have
been made available therefor.
$201,000 raised by the issuance
of the bonds authorized by this
bond order shall be used to fi
nance the cost of providing said
school facilities.
Section 3. In order to raise
the money required to finance
the cost of reconstructing, en
gaging and altering said exist
ing Duilcung used lor the Cho
wan County High School and
reconstructing, enlarging and al
tering said existing building
used for the Edenton High
school, including the installation
ot proper drainage facilities and
covered walkways, and the erec
tion of said addition to the
building used tor the John A.
Holmes High School, bonds of
the County of Chowan are here
by authorized and shall be
issued pursuant to The County
i Finance Act of North Carolina.
The maximum aggregate princi
pal amount of bonds authorized
by this bond order shall be Two
Hundred and Eighty-nine Thous
and Dollars ($289,000).
■ Section 4. A tax suificient to
pay the principal of and interest
on said bonds when due shall,
be annually levied and collected.
Section 5. A statement of the
County debt of the County of
Chowan has been filed with the
CleH* of the Board of Com
missioners of said County and is
open to public inspection.
Section 6. This bond order
shall take effect when approv
ed by the voters of the County
at an election as provided in
said Act. ,
The roregomg Dona order has!
been introduced and a sworn
statement has been filed under
the County Finance Act, show
ing the assessed valuation of the
County to be $21,046,692.00, and
the net debt for school purposes,
including the proposed bonds,
to be $547,080.00. A tax will
be levied for the payment of the
proposed bonds and' interest, if
the same shall be issued. Any
citizen or taxpayer may protest
against the issuance of such
bonds at a meeting of the- Board
of Commissioners to be held at
the regular meeting place of said
Board in the County Court
House in Edenton. North Caro
lina, at 9 o’clock A. M., on the
16th day of May, 1961, or an
adjournment thereof.

leigh, N. C., for its approval of
the issuance of the following
proposed bonds of the County
of Chowan, North < Carolina,
which bonds shall be subject to
approval of the voters of said
County at an election: $289,000
of bonds to finance the cost of
reconstructing, enlarging and al
tering an existing building used
for the Chowan County High
School and reconstructing, en
larging and altering an existing
building used for the Edenton
High School, including the in
stallation of proper drainage fa
cilities and covered walkways,
and the erection of an addition
to the building used for the
John A. Holmes High School. \
This notice was first publish
ed on the 4th day of May, 1961.
Any citizen or taxpayer object
ing to the issuance of all or
any of said bonds may file with
the Local Government Commis
sion a verified statement Set
ting forth his objections as pro
vided in Section 159-7-1 of the
General Statutes of North Caro
lina, in which event he. shall
also file a copy of such state
ment with the undersigned, at
any time within ten days from
and 'after such first publication.
A copy of this notice fnust be
attached to the statement so

sideration by said Commission
in its determination of whether
or not it i may hold a public
hearing as provided 'by law on
