Inoculating Seed Peanuts:
Again, I want to urge as many
peanut growers in Chowan
County as will to try inoculat
ing some of their seed peanuts
at planting time with peanut
inoculant. The inoculant will
only cost about 30 to 40 cents
per acre and may mean a return
of as much as two or three more
• bags of peanuts per acre. Treat
with your peanuts with seed
treatment as usual but inoculate
them at planting time.
Cooperative Lamb Pool At
Plymouth: The cooperative lamb
pool for this area has been
scheduled for Monday, June 5,
at Plymouth, N. C. I will give
you further information as to
the place and time.
Sheep growers who have mar- !
keted their lambs through the
wool pool have profited by so
doing over the last ten years
with the exception of one year.
Lambs should be finished weigh
ing 85 pounds or better.
There will be a cooperative
wool pool in this area in per
haps early July. I will announce
this later. In the meantime,
keep your wool dry, tie it with
regular paper tying wool twine
which may be purchased at the

Meat Spoilage: Many farm
families in Chowan County have
had trouble with their home-cur
ed pork supply spoiling this
year. I visited several families
relative to determining the trou
ble, some of which I think I
found the trouble and some of
which I did not. When this
problem became prevalent, I
immediately wrote Dr. John A.
Christian, our Extension Meat
Specialist, to come to the coun
ty at his very earliest conveni
ence to survey our problem of
meat spoilage and advise usj
what went wrong.
This week, I received a let- j
ter from Dr. Christian stating
that he will be with me in Cho
wan County on May 25 and May
26. During those two days we
will visit several farms. On
Thursday night, May 25, I shall
plan a county-wide meeting for
those of you who have had trou
ble with meat spoilage and any
others interested. At this meet-i
ing, you should state your prob-|
lems, answer Dr. Christian’s
questions and we will try our
best to find out what went
wrong with the curing of your|
meat supply. I will mention;
this item again next week on
radio and in the newspaper.
Surviving are a son, Jack
Phillips of Memphis, Tenn.;
three sisters, Miss Henrietta
Wood Fagan of Durham, Mrs.
R. P. Badham of Edenton and
Mrs. S. R. Biggs of Williamston;
a brother, Roger Fagan of New
York City; two granddaughters
and a number of nieces and ne
phews.
