Spring was the time when fishermen timbered up their nets and boats, and the water front, on its whole length, was alive with activity that boded no good for the| fish, but did bring a lot of cash to the fishermen. This bol ster to our economy was quite an ,‘item, as fish was a main product to this town and area. And this character who peddled fish brought you fish fresh out of the water, alive and kicking. Hol lowell presided, leading the group ih singing “The Star Spangled Banner.” Mrs. M. M. Nixon conducted the devotional from the book of James and read a prayer. Miss Pauline Callo way gave a demonstration on different fabrics for facings and linings. As of today most dresses are lined. The club had a. new pump installed. Members of the club canvassed for the cancer drive, R&d Cross, March of •Dimes and blood bank, Some cook books were paid for and some candy was sold recently. Mrs.'; E. N. Elliott, Mrs. C. J. The club women will help with a firemen’s supper May 20 at the fire station at Cross Roads. Bar becue chicken or pork, with oth er things, will be sold. The wo men of the community will fur nish potato salad, slaw, block _ cake, cUp cakes and tea. Drinks will be sold. I’icitets are on sale now by the firemen or women of the community. Chowan . Farm Bureau met Tuesday night, May 9, at Oak Grove Community Building. It was’ a dutch supper which began at 7 o’clock. The Red Cross bloodtnobile will be in Edenton Monday, May 22, from 11 A. M. to 5 P. M. The county’s quota is 105 pints. A memorial service wid be held Sunday, May 14, at 2:30 P. M. on the Court House Green, planned by the Chowan Confed erate Centennial uroup. It wid commemorate the 100th annivers ary of the War Between the States. The program wid start with a band concert by the Jphn A. Holmes High School Band. Firemen Answer Four Alarms During April Fire Chief W. J. Yates re ports that Edenton firemen an swered four alarms in April, two in Edenton and two out ; of town. I For the Edenton fires the fire -1 men were out 4 hours and 25 minutes and out of town 4 hours and 45 minutes. They were on the air 40 seconds in Edenton and 25 seconds out of town. Firemen traveled 12 miles for the Edenton fires and 45 miles cut of town. In Edenton 300 feet of hose was laid and 900 feet \ out of town. CENTER HILL CLUB MEETS | The Center Hill Senior 4-H, Club held its May meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Em mett Jones. Emmett Jones, Jr.,I vice president, presided over the meeting in the absence of the president, Judy Haste. The de votion was given by Jo Ann Copeland. Senior 4-H Camp,was discuss ed by Harry Venters. He also reminded the club of district demonstration contests which will be held in Chocowinity on June 20. The club decided to practice a talent number for the county and district contest.
