Nep Home Demonstration News •r Mis. OKNU 8. CHARLTON, Ceuty Han* Hora« Cmmmlm A S e»* During National Home Dem onstration Week the County i Council of Home Demonstration Clubs asked charter members to send in a report on “What ' pome Demonstration Club Work Pas Meant To Me And My F/am ’Uy”. ; Listed below are two reports which are typical of reports re ceived: “The only regret I have, is I haven’t words to express the benefits I have received since joining the Home Demonstration Club. “I am a charter member of the Home Demonstration Club of Canaan Temple. I am happy to say it has been a pleasure, also a blessing, having worked under the leadership of our agent who is one of the influential, ener getic and interesting person with Which to work. I have learned better standards of living and proper methods of cooking that make better health. Housekeep ing, how to lessen such labori ous ways in trying to carry on in the old ways. I have learn ed better health habits and to live at home by producing such foods that can be canned, also milk and milk products and how to select them. I have had foods on my shelves until planting time arrived again. I have clothing closets made at home, screened doors, windows screen ed. I also learned to match col ors for the interior and exterior of the house and the seven basic foods. I have learned detergents and how to select them, how to conduct a decent cleaning of the house and many others that I can’t recall now. There isn’t anything in the home that has been neglected that we haven’t been taught something about it.” Mrs. Carrie V. Brown Canaan Temple Home Demonstration Club. “I am not able to put into ■words what Home Demonstration Club Work Has Meant, And Still Means To Me. “I did know how to cook fruit in an open pot, and pour it into jars. I also knew how to do :old pack canning and cooking /or \7| BETTER LIVIM^; “Pyrofax’* T *| gap it the moat V I dependable fuel you f I can use...for cooking, I I home heating, clothes I I drying, water heating. Swgratns Crown ASI - - s3as I^Cii in three hours, but L being a do- 1 mestic worker, working from 7i o’clock in the morning until 6 o’clock in the afternoon, was too tired to do the cold pack can ning at night. 1 often wished to myself that we had a Home Demonstration Club, so we could can vegetables and meat like other people I had heard about were doing. “In 1946, Mrs. Charlton or ganized a Home Demonstration Club in our community, known as the Hudson Grove Home Demonstration Club. “I am a charter member of the club, and in all of those years I have missed only four meetings, and I was away from home then. So you can see by that, that I love my club work, and it means a great thing to me. “I wanted to be able to can vegetables, meat, fish, etc. “The club bought two pressure canners, but it was so seldom that I had a chance to use them, so in 1948 I bought a pressure canner of my own and from that time on, I have plenty of can ned pork, chicken, peas, corn, string beans, fish, fish roe, etc., to last all winter. “Had it not been for the Home Demonstration Club, I doubt if I ever would have ac complished that. Needless to say canning is not the only good thing in club work. The good demonstrations that our agents give us every month means so much to us, if we will abide by them, and put them into prac tice. I do as far as .1 am able. We study clothing, home im provement, family living, gar dening, how to manage our time, money and homes, and many other things to help us, our fam ilies and our community. “We have learned the seven basic foods and how to serve our families three wholesome meals each day. “We have also learned how to build cabinets for storing our canned foods and clothing. “By attending the County Council meetings we learn a great deal about club work, how to plan our work and activities and how to carry them out. “I look forward each August for our educational and recrea tional trips. They are very en joyable, and in the fall to the District Federation Meetings. I go places and meet and make friends I did not know. “I think Home Demonstration Club work is a grand educa tional opportunity for us all.” Mrs. Vashti Twine Hudson Grove Home Demonstration Club Interest Aroused For Air Patrol Continued from Page L Section 1 (Bill) Crummey, Thomak Jack son, N.
