News By Catherine aman Anfitui Home Economics Agenl The annual Chowan County 4-H Dress Revue, Talent Show arid Health Pageant will be held on Thursday, June 1, at 3:00 P. M., in the Rocky Hock Com munity Center. I do hope that many of you 4-H’ers are planning to partici pate in one or more of these ac tivities. To be eligible for the contests the following requirements must be met: /(l) Dress Revue: Any 4-H members actively enrolled in a 4-H clothing project and has made a garment during this 4-H year may enter. (A garment made in a home economics class or in connection with a home economics project can not be en tered in the 4-H Dress Revue). Ibere will be three divisions: Senior, Junior and Apron in the Dress Revue. (t) Health Pageant: To be chosen a Health Prince or Prin cess from a club, a 4-H’er must have turned in a completed Health Improvement Record Book—(the basie on which the winners are judged)'. If your Health Records, have not been turned in, get them to our of fice immediately. (3) Talent Show: Any 4-H Club member may participate in this activity. The 4-H Strawberry Show and Sale ir, scheduled for Friday, May 26, at 4:30 P. M. This show and sale will be held at the old Sinclair Service Station on the corner of Broad and Queen Streets. The 4-H Automotive Club is continuing to hold regular meet ings. Last week, the group met at the Eden ton Motor Company. Mr. Gene Perry taught the les son on “Know Your Owner’s 'Manual”. [ The Center Hill Junior 4-H’ers sold homemade ice cream and brownies at the Open House of 1 the Center Hill-Cross Roads Fire Department Saturday. Proceeds from the sale of ice cream and j brownies will go to the Fire De partment. Linda Goodwin, Peg gy and Linda Monds, Mary Pri vott, Lee Venters, Robbie Boyce and Johnny Dußois, under the guidance of Emmett Jones, Jr., and Adult Leaders Mrs. Emmett Jones and Mrs. Melba Dußois, seemed to enjoy their part .in the Open House activities. Mo thers of the 4-H’ers contributed the ice cream and brownies. Activities of this type certain ly are working examples of how a 4-H Club can contribute to community improvement. GUM POND CLUB MEETS On May 3, at 8 o’clock, the Gum Pond Club held its month ly meeting in the Rocky Hock Community Center. The meet ing began by singing “Holy, Holy, Holy,” with all repeating The Lord’s Prayer. Miss Pauline Calloway gave the demonstration on interfac-1 ings for collars and cuffs and interlining for skirts and dress es. She showed various samples of material which could be used. The club was proud of the re port Mrs. Florine Nixon gave on the cancer drive. Mrs. Bur nett Smith gave a treasurer’s report .and stated the club had boxes of Get-Well Cards and Sympathy Cards for sale. The Club discussed the County Coun cil Meeting for June. The meeting was adjourned by repeating the Club Collect. The club was glad to have Mrs. J. L. Chestnutt of the Co lonial Club as a guest. Mrs. Eula Bunch led in the recreation. The hostesses. Mrs. Alma Nixon and Mrs. Louise Wilson, served pineapple pie, roasted pecans and drinks. No age or time of life, no posi tion or circumstance, has a mo nopoly on success.
