SECTION TWO . H- VQ V • jHB J<&mny Reb now stands guard <A ;'\ new camp ground—the Confederate monument and the sdldier in gray atop, that stood at attention far so many years oh the Court House Green, has been moved to the foot of Broad Street And one of the land marks of my boyhood has dis ,appeared. It brings a tighten tidjCof the throat and a nostal ilc-oadness, and the thought that maybe after all we should have m the old boy to stand his Wnely vigil in the same old pfeice. But time marches on, one of the things we can be Sure of in this life is change. Whither for better or worse, the cWily panoramic scene of one’:, is continually shifting. The is constantly .giving way for tfjft new . . : Yes, the last reveil le |>as been blown and the last taps have been sounded, the And whatsoever ye shall ask ip my name, that will I do, that (She l Father may be glorified in thej Son. John 14:13. Prayer is a wonderful thing, it is actually a chance to have fellowship with God. It is a chance to pour your troubles out. God is always ready to listen to an earnest prayer, and He is always ready to help us if we Will let Him and seek His help. God is a friend to the friend less. He is a friend to every one but we must first accept Him. We can talk to God anytime or anywhere. It is more rever ent to fall on our knees in rev erence to God, but this is not always i, possible. In fact Jesus said not to use vain repetitions as the heathens do. We should not seek to make a beautiful pfflyer for '<o hear, btjt we should talk to God with earnest hearts. Jesus said to enter into thy closet and shut the door. In other words, shut out the world. If' we feel the need for prayer and can’t talk to- our Father in private we can always shut out mihds door from the world any wtiere we may be. Jesus said if we pray in secret our Father shall reward us openly. And Johnny Reb now faithfully stands at attention, stands his last and lonely’ but loyal guard post on a new camp ground. There’s some agitation for changing the color of our paper money. All the comment I can make on that is, let’s don’t make our paper bills red. For then our folding money would be per petually blushing for shame; and I ‘don’t blame ’em—for if I were a dollar bill, I’d blush, too. Because nowadays I’d consider myself almost worthless and not the bill I used to be, when a dollar bill was a full one hun dred cents. Castro is taking a contemptu PRAYER By TERRY JONES 14:13-13 if we will ask anything in His name He will do it. This seems to be a broad statement because many times our prayers seem not to be answered. Jesus meant if you ask anything in His name that the Father may be glorified He will do it. Our prayers should be for the glori fication of God. Our prayers should also be earnest and not ; just something we rattle off not j coming from our heart. The first prayer of a sinner should be, “Oh God, be merciful |to me a sinner.” Then God will hear our prayers if we have | truly received his mercy and ' grace in the Lord Jesus Christ. Is God satisfied with your prayers? THIS IS THE rr\W By ROBERT E. LEE (For the N. C. Bar Association) Properly Exempt From Creditors This is a continuation of a subject that was begun last week. Farmer Corntassle says: One reason why they teach Home Economics, cookin’ an’ sewin’ an’ sich, in our schools today, is that the gals caint get it at home. Very few mommas kin do those things well today. Time was when a gal learned housekeeping and all that went' with it from their mothers—but times shore have changed. No compromise with communism, j homestead exemption in real es tate not exceeding one thousand , dollars. May a debtor sell or transfer to another any of the articles of personal property put aside as his exemption? Yes. They lose the quality of exempt property in the hands of a third person, being as other property belonging to such third person. When property set apart to the debtor for his exemption has been diminished by use or other cause, is the debtor entitled to have subsequent allotments of exempted property? Yes. The debtor is entitled to have the full amount of his ex emption at all times free from levy and sale by his creditors. Is the one thousand dollar homestead exemption in North Carolina restricted to owners of land which have a dwelling thereon? N 0,., One who owns, only va cant sots of timber land is en titled to a homestead exemption. The one thousand dollar homestead exemption valuation was fixed by the North Caro lina Constitution of 1868. There are probably few homesteads or dwellings selling for that price today. If the debtor owns a single dwelling valued at more than one thousand dollars and no other property, our Supreme Court has suggested that a por tion of the house, containing rooms of sufficient value, to be set apart as in the allotment of real estate to a widow. Is a homestead up to the value of one thousand dollars exempt from obligations contracted for the purchase of the premises? No. Furthermore, the liens of laborers and mechanics for work done on the premises can not be defeated by the home stead exemption. Is a homestead up to the value of one thousand dollars A exempt from sale for taxes? No. Any property may be sold for the non-payment of taxes. May the children or widow of a deceased debtor succeed to his homestead exemption rights? In certain cases the home stead exemption rights of a de ceased debtor may be claimed by his children during their minority or by his widow dur ing her life. The five hundred dollars per sonal property exemption ends with the debtor’s death, and his children cr widow are not en titled to have it extended be yond this period. But under other provisions of our statutes, a widow in North Carolina is entitled to receive from the es tate of her deceased husband “a year’s allowance” not exceeding seven hundred fifty dollars free from the claims of his creditors; and children less than fifteen years of age are entitled to re ceive two hundred fifty dollars flpp IpfNpPpi. iltovs; -.TSSw-- THE KING WILL DINE—Bozo, self-styled king of the hobos, enjoys a free lunch—with a financial journal for a bib.
