A request was received to
name the street “Armory Street”
running in front of John A.
Holmes High School from Free
mason Street to the armory. The
name was not so enthusiastical
ly received, so that Luther Parks
and Richard Dixon were ap
pointed to bring in prospective
names for the street.
During the meeting bids were
accepted for a truck, a compac
tion garbage unit and a crawler
tractor for the Street Depart
ment. This equipment is ne
cessary for use in connection
with the land fill garbage dis
posal system on base property.
Byrum Implement & Truck
Company was low bidder for an
International truck and the
crawler tractor. The truck price
was $3,079.03 and the tractor
$5,385. Baker Equipment Engi
neering Company of Charlotte
was low bidder for the com
paction garbage unit at a price
of $4,540 for a Garwood unit.
It was reported that a stop
sign had been installed at Al
bania and Dickerson Streets.
Mayor John Mitchener advis
ed the Councilmen that the
Edenton school trustees will
meet jointly with Town Council
Tuesday night, July 11, for the
purpose of appointing two mem
bers to the school trustees for
whom the terms have expired.
VFW MEETS TUESDAY

9280, Veterans of Foreign Wars,

Although none of Phthisic’s
customers were Chosen as t
grand prize winner, it was point
ed out that the store was sub
mitted. In the voting special
mention was made of accommo
