Virginia Fork r*'* -«-• The County Council of Home Demonstration Clubs will meet Friday, June 23, in our office at 1:30 P. M. Due to lack of Space, only club presidents and secretaries are asked to attend. Please make plans to be pres ent. Last week three of us attend ed the Farmers and Home Mak ers Conference held at A. and T. College, Greensboro, North Carolina. Mrs. Lucy Willis was delesate from the Chowan Coun ty Council of Home Demonstra tion Clubs and Mrs. Arizona! Fleming, sent as delegate from the Center Hill Home Demon stration Club and the Center, Hill Community Development! Organization. The Town and ( Rural Minister convened at the same time at A. and T. College.j Dr. Samuel D. Proctor, presi-| dent A. and T. College, delivered the keynote address at the open ing session of the Conference and Institute. He spoke on the subject, “The Price of Changing, Status”. Dr. Proctor pointed out] that downtrodden people in sev eral nations of the world where caste systems prevail, have no] desire to change status and none, is contemplated. He said, “The Christian religion makes the dif ference and where the Chris tain faith exists the people look up to God and pray for re spect and dignity”. Four classes were taught on the Home Makers program— “ The Inheritance Law in North Carolina”; “Good Frozen Food Practices”; What Do You Want For Your Housing Dollar?”; and “Weight Control For Better Health”. Delegates will present detail information learned in these classes at home demon stration and community meetings and on a radio program. At the two assembly meet ings, R. E. Jones, Negro State Agent, spoke on “Careers in Ag riculture” and Marion Wright on “Some Aspects of Human Re lations”. | Wednesday night the fashion spotlight was on “Milady’s Hat”. Hat-making has been the order of the day all over North Caro lina this year, serving to cut Sown the clothing dollar and as a motivating gesture for non club members to participate in all Extension Home Economics programs. Las siter, County Agricultural Agent is attending with the group. For the next three weeks, I will be in Summer School. Home Demonstration Clubs will meet on schedule. Foods and nutrition project leaders will be in charge of the demonstration with club officers conducting the! meeting. The schedule for next week follows: June 26—Virginia Fork with Mrs. Katy Morring, 8:00 P. M. June 27—Warren Grove with Mrs. Eletta McClenny, 2:30 P. M. June 28—Green Hall with Mrs. Hattie Horton, 2:30 P. M. June 29—Center Hill at Com munity Building, 2:30 P. M.; Ryans Grove with Mrs. Tamar White, 7:00 P. M. CHOWAN CLUB MEETS The Chowan Home Demon-! stration Club met June 12, at! the Community House at 3 o’clock. The meeting opened with the group singing “Onward Ever Onward”. Mrs. J. H. Asbell read verses from the 138th Psalm. Mrs. C. J. Hollowell led in prayer and also presided. Miss Pauline Calloway, home agent, gave a demonstration by slides on “Song of the Salad” and gave out copies on nutrition notes on salads and freezing vegetables. Farm and Home Week will, be held July 11-14 at State Co!-j lege. The club picnic will be held] July 18 with a picnic supper at I the Chowan Community Build ing.
