PAGE FOUR I—SECTION TWO Harold Langdale Dies After Short Illness Jlarold Elton Langdale, 36, died Saturday morning at 9:40 o’clock in Chowan Hospital fol lowing a short illness. He was a native of Chowan County, member of the Edenton Baptist Church, VFW and Red Men, ser ved in the U. S. Navy in World War II and was an employee of M. G. Brown Company. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Leda Modlin Langdale; his mo ther, Mrs. Myrtle Langdale; five sisters, Mrs Johnny Owens of Edenton, Mrs. Robert Goodwin and Mrs. Douglas King of Eliza beth City, Mrs. Fred Rindenhour of Richfield, N. C., and Mrs. Jo seph Kubaski of Newport News. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Sunday af ternoon at 4 o’clock. The pas tor, the Rev. R. N. Carroll, of ficiated and burial was in Beav er Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Linwood Lee, William E. Barrow, W. D. Har ris, Larry Knox, W. W. Perry and Marshall Mansfield. IN GERMAN EXERCISE Sgt. Lloyd R. Williams, son of Mir. and Mrs. Percy L. Wil liams, Route 2, Edenton, partici pated with other personnel from the Seventh U. S. Army Sup port Command in April Shower, a Seventh Army command post exercise in Germany, June 2-9. The exercise was designed as a study of organization, displace ment of units, communications and logistics. All U. S. corps and divisions within the Seventh Army participated at command levels. During April Shower control staffs fed problems and situa tions involving the activities of a simulated aggressor force to the participating commands. These units then took the ne cessary action. Sergeant Williams, assigned to the 7th Aviation Groups’ Head quarters Company which is reg ularly located in Ludwigsburg, entered the Army in 1954 and arrived overseas on this tour of duty in September, 1957. A special public hearing was held this day in the Chowan County Court House for the pur pose of discussing the Council’s action to revise and consolidate 1 the charter of the Town of! Edenton. Council members present: May or John A. Mitchener, Jr., J. Edwin Bufflap, George A. By rum, R. Elton Forehand, Luther C. Parks and R. D. Dixon, Jr. Meeting was called to order by Mayor John A. Mitchener, Jr. The following persons were in attendance: J. E. Debnam, James Wood, James Robinson, John Shackel ford, Tom Shepard and R. N. Hines. After full explanation of the proposed changes in the Char ter the majority of the people present expressed satisfaction with these changes. Motion was made by George A. Byrum, seconded by R. D. Dixon, Jr., and duly carried that the Charter as changed be adopted ana that Chowan Coun ty’s Representative, Honorable Albert G. Byrum, be requested to enact the same in the North Carolina General Assembly. Motion was made by Luther C. Parks, seconded by George A. Byrum, and duly carried that the following resolution be adopted: WHEREAS, The Town of Edenton has received 807.030 acres of land together with the improvements thereon from the General Services Administration for use as a Municipal Airport and, WHEREAS, portions of this land are to be used for produc ing revenue for the maintenance: and operation of the Edenton Municipal Airport; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLV ED, that all proceeds derived from the leasing of the property will be diverted exclusively to the development, improvement, operation or maintenance of the Edenton Municipal Airport. Dixon, Jr. Bids were opened and read on a 16 cubic yard compaction unit, 24000 G.V.W. truck, and crawler loaded tractor. George A. Byrum. and C. A. Byrum, and duly carried that the time schedule for construc tion of proposed sewage treat ment plant as suggested by W. F. Freeman, Inc., be accepted. Representatives from the Clay Pipe Institute met with the two Boards and discussed the prob , lems of holding bond elections. Minutes of the May meetings and special session held on June 6, 1961, were approved as read. Motion was made by J. E. Bufflap, seconded by R. D. Dix on, Jr., and duly carried that a j stop sign be placed at Albania [ and Dickerson Streets and that i the following ordinance be adopted: When stop signs are placed, ! erected, or installed at the in- j tersection of Albania Street and Dickerson Street and placed in 1 Schedule X and made a part thereof it shall be unlawful to i enter Dickerson Street without stopping his vehicle and deter mining that no conflict with traffic will be involved. Motion was made by R. D. Dixon, Jr., seconded by R. El ton Forehand, and duly carried that the following ordinance reg ulating honey bees and bee hives ; be adopted: AN ORDINANCE TO REGU- ! LATE HONEY BEES AND BEE HIVES IN THE TOWN OF EDENTON: i It shall be unlawful to keep or maintain a colony or swarm of bees or bee hives in the Town of Edenton. Keeping bees or bee hives in the Town of Eden ton will be considered a private I nuisance. If any person or persons re sponsible for the existence and continuance of such nuisance af ter being duly notified by the Chief of Police or his duly authorized officer to abate said nuisance, shall fail to abate the same within 24 hours after such notice, he shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to a fine, not to exceed fifty dollars or imprisonment not to exceed thirty days. STOP AND YIELD RIGHT OF WAY— When signs have been erected, or installed it shall be unlawful for any person to fail to stop and yield the right of way to any motor vehicle that is on the main traveled or through street. SPEED LIMITS— It shall be unlawful to op erate any motor vehicle on any street or roadway on the Naval Air Station property at a speed in excess of 25 miles per hour. BOAT DOCK OR BOAT HOUSE It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to dock or moor any boat, ship, barge or other water craft at the dock or boat house on the Na val Air Station property for longer than 24 hours without permission of the Town Council. TREES, SHRUBS OR FLOWERS It shall be unlawful to cut down, pull up, remove, destroy or otherwise injure any tree shrubs or flowers growing or placed within the property known as the Naval Air Station property acquired from the Fed eral Government, without per mission from the Edenton Town Council. LOITERING OR PROWLING— ! It shall be unlawful for any person to loiter or prowl in any unoccupied building, or to mu tilate any building fence or to deface, damage or trespass upon any property belonging to the Town known as the Naval Air Station property. I LIVE STOCK— It shall be unlawful for any person to allow any livestock to graze or to be allowed to be on the Naval Air Station proper ty without permission of the. Town Council. VEHICLES ON RUNWAYS— j It shall be unlawful for any j person or persons to operate or to allow any motor vehicle on j the Air Strip of the Naval Air; Station except emergency ve- j hides authorized by the Chief of Police. HUNTING— It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to hunt with dogs or guns on the Naval Air Station property without permis sion in writing from the Town Council. Motion was made by George A. Phillips, and duly carried that, the following ordinance, be adopted: In conformance with Motor Vehicle Laws of North Caro lina Section 2-162 it shall be lawful to park any emergency vehicle defined in Article 1, Chapter F sub.
