Negro Home Demonstration News By MBS. ONNIK S. CHARLTON, County Negro Home Economies Agent Sixteen very happy 4-H Club 1 boys and girls journeyed to J. I W- Mitchell 4-H Camp at Swans boro July 17 and spent an enjoy able and profitable week. Four-H camp does train youth 1 in the art of living. A well planned program during the week provided opportunities for 4-H’ers to put good citizenship into practice; to develop skill with their hands; to think big, creatively and clear, and 'to gain new knowledge. A total of 141 4-H’ers were there from Orange, Warren, Ro wan, Perquimans, Gates and Chowan counties. They were organized into four groups— Head, Heart, Hands and Health. Members in each group attended classes and carried through their camp activities and duties to gether. Classes taught were Electri city, Handicraft, Recreation and Rimming. Activities included flag ceremonies, vespers, even ing programs and morning as sembly. These were planned r and carried out by 4-H’ers, sup ervised by leaders and agents. Duties included setting up and cleaning dining tables, cleaning grounds and buildings In the handicraft class each camper made a jewelry box. Girls in their electricity class were taught the use and care of the electric refrigerator and freez er—considered by many the most valuable treasure chests in homes today. On the last day of this class girls were divided into groups, then prepared and served a lunch of pizza burgers, peas and carrots and chocolate crisps, using the electric range. You can see everything was done to develop 4-H’ers and they were encouraged to take from camp the ideals, the inspiration and training that would help them become better individuals. Those attending from Chowan were Jo Ann Walton, James Slade, O. C. Holley, Jr., Carl Coston, Paulette Lassiter, Kay Wadsworth, Mary Owens, Phillis Madrey, Doris Littlejohn, De borah Jordan, Carolyn Hall, Katie Lee Brothers, Doris V ♦ • Straight Kentucky * Bourbon $434 s 2^ r( cft’utioJif !-fseu fifonffi* // @MfdLJiMUac C o>utimV | || * OISDUXD ft BOTTLED BY -||l A.NCIENT AOB OISTILLINO CO. 1 FRANKFORT.
