In a wedding ceremony con ducted Saturday night, August 19, at 8:30 o’clock in Grace Epis copal Church at Morganton, Miss Diana Arneson DeVere be came the bride of Robert Bland Smith, Jr. The Rev. John W. Carter of Morganton and the Rev. George B. Holmes of Eden ton officiated. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Princhas Nields DeVere and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bland Smith, Sr., of Edenton. Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a dress of pure silk peau de soie trimmed with alencon lace and fashioned with portrait neckline. A very bouffant full-flared skirt, flowed into a billowy chapel train. Her veil of matching rose-point and brussels lace, draped mantilla fashion, cascaded into her train. Miss Elizabeth Tucker Brink ley of Plymouth was maid of honor. She wore a short formal length gown of sky blue Yriira mist taffeta fashioned with a fitted bodice, cap sleeves and; bell skirt. Her head-piece was] grecian bandeau of matching j lace. Bridesmaids, wearing dress es identical to the honor attend ant were Miss Amelia Whitaker Yancey of Marion and Miss Sara Relfe Smith of Edenton. sister of. the bridegroom. Miss Pamela! The bridegroom’s father was! best man and ushers were David j Erskine Devere and Princhas | Nields DeVere, Jr., brothers of the bride; Thomas Benbury Wood and Linwood Darden | Bond, both of Edenton: Thomas Cox Powell 111, of Raleigh; Charles Hunt Shuford of Hickory and William Brevard Miller of Pineville. The mother of the bride wore B sheath dress of violet mist silk bhiffon and matching accessories. The bridegroom's mother was at tired in a copen blue silk chif fon dress with matching acces- 1 sories. The bride’s parents entertain ed at a reception at the Mi mosa Hills Golf Club. After wards the couple left for a wed ding trip and for traveling the bride wore a black and white suit, fashioned with fitted chan nel jacket and coordinated ac cessories. The bride attended St. Mary’s Junior College and graduated from the University of North Carolina where she was a mem ber of Chi Omega sorority. She was presented to North Caro lina society at the Terpsichorean Ball in Raleigh in 1956. The bridegroom attended State College where he was a mem ber of Kappa Sigma fraternity, and graduated from the Univer sity of North Carolina. He is a tUMA now in the law school at U.N.C. Numerous parties were given in honor of the couple. Paul | Nickens, pastor of Plymouth Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Miss Tar i kenton was a rising senior at ( Plymouth High School and a I member of the Pleasant Grove I Methodist Church.
