19, at 8:30 o’clock in Grace Epis
copal Church at Morganton,
Miss Diana Arneson DeVere be
came the bride of Robert Bland
Smith, Jr. The Rev. John W.
Carter of Morganton and the
Rev. George B. Holmes of Eden
ton officiated.
The bride is the daughter of
Dr. and Mrs. Princhas Nields
DeVere and the bridegroom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Bland Smith, Sr., of Edenton.
Given in marriage by her fa
ther, the bride wore a dress of
pure silk peau de soie trimmed
with alencon lace and fashioned
with portrait neckline. A very
bouffant full-flared skirt, flowed
into a billowy chapel train. Her
veil of matching rose-point and
brussels lace, draped mantilla
fashion, cascaded into her train.
Miss Elizabeth Tucker Brink
ley of Plymouth was maid of
honor. She wore a short formal
length gown of sky blue Yriira
mist taffeta fashioned with a
fitted bodice, cap sleeves and;
bell skirt. Her head-piece was]
grecian bandeau of matching j
lace. Bridesmaids, wearing dress
es identical to the honor attend
ant were Miss Amelia Whitaker
Yancey of Marion and Miss Sara
Relfe Smith of Edenton. sister of.
the bridegroom. Miss Pamela!

bride, was junior bridesmaid. I

B sheath dress of violet mist silk
bhiffon and matching accessories.
The bridegroom's mother was at
tired in a copen blue silk chif
fon dress with matching acces- 1
sories.
The bride’s parents entertain
ed at a reception at the Mi
mosa Hills Golf Club. After
wards the couple left for a wed
ding trip and for traveling the
bride wore a black and white
suit, fashioned with fitted chan
nel jacket and coordinated ac
cessories.
The bride attended St. Mary’s
Junior College and graduated
from the University of North
Carolina where she was a mem
ber of Chi Omega sorority. She
was presented to North Caro
lina society at the Terpsichorean
Ball in Raleigh in 1956.
The bridegroom attended State
College where he was a mem
ber of Kappa Sigma fraternity,
and graduated from the Univer
sity of North Carolina. He is a
tUMA now in the law school
at U.N.C.
Numerous parties were given
in honor of the couple.

I member of the Pleasant Grove
I Methodist Church. She had re
cently received honors in public
speaking and was active in many
j other school organizations. Sur
fiving are her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas W. Tarkenton; one
lister, Annie Worth of the home;
one brother, Robert Owen Tar
kenton of Long Island, N. Y.

person in Chowan County who
has an interest in agriculture
will seriously consider joining
Farm Bureau and become a part
of “The Voice of Agriculture”.
In an explanation of what
Farm Bureau is, Woodrow Lowe
pointed out that it is farmer
owned and operated and that it
has no connection with govern
ments. It is primarily designed
to help form agriculture policies
in such away as to help farm
ers increase their incomes along
lines consistent with the princi
ples of freedom and democracy.
