WE UNSEfcN fiNEMV By TERRY JONES "tw. m<* this world". n Cor. *4) “TK* pWKOe of this world '. Jdbn 14136; "The prince of the power of the air". Ephesians 2.2; \ r The spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience," Ephesians 2.2. Stop and think, when you we*rt? tempted last? Was it an hour ago or just a few mo ments? Were you tempted to atay home from church last Sunday? Were you tempted to joiti ih a group of gossipers and help tear down someone’s repu tation? Were you tempted to stretch the truth? I dare say everyone reading this column has been tempted in the last few hours, and probably many yielded to that temptation. We men of clay are fighting an unseen enemy—Satan. Sa tan is not a myth, he is not a fairy tale. He told Almighty God in Job 1:7 that he (Satan) has been going to and fro in the earth, and walking up and ,down on it. If you don’t be lieve that Satan is on the earth then look around you. Read your newspaper, look at the television. Surely Satan is do infe a very good job of blinding then from the gospel story and keeping them from trusting Christ. He has a great army df false prophets, false Chris tians and false doctrines about the salvation of one’s soul. He has more bartenders than there are preachers of the gospel. He knows your individual weak' points, he knows how you will 1 react to certain situations. He knows how to approach you when you will not always rec ognize him. He is as sly and subtle now as he was in the Garden of Eden. We are living in the kingdom of Satan. Paul mentions him as the god of this world. Christ called him the prince of the world. But the fact that we live in Satan’s kingdom- does not mean that we have to fol low him. Surely we will sin for we are flesh, but we can escape the bonds of sin by trusting Jesus to save us from the fiery darts of Satan. Jesus Christ is like a stairway lead ing to Heaven built by the lov ing hand of God. Once you J have trusted Jesus as. Lord of , your life and Saviour from sin, . you will not want to follow Satan but you will seek the will of God in your life. Surely 1 you will falter and often fail, but if Jesus is truly in your life then you will always re turn to Him and He will never leave you. Won’t you trust Jesus to cast out that unseen enemy in your life? P. O. CLOSED MONDAY Edenton’s Post Office will be closed Monday, September 4 due to the observance of Labor Day.
