The format and cover 'design of this old standby maga-j zine • has undergone some radi cal changes. I have long been a reader of the Saturday Even ing Post —since my school days to be exact. Although this magazine has weathered many' storms and undergone many changes, both editorially and mechanical, it is, in my opinion, America’s foremost magazine. Where magazines ' come and magazines go, the Satevepost Aces Defeat Heavy Cadet Team (Continued From Page l. The Post is a hardy perennial, a mirror of the chang ing times and an American in stitution. It is a gentlemen among magazines in this era of ultra-frank publications, and will never embarrass you. It j may be left openly on the li -1 brary table for the visiting ! minister to see, and may be t given safely to your straight | laced maiden aunt for a-Christ mas gift; and at the same time iit is as modern as tomorrow, and its diversified appeal will satisfy anyone, from the teen ! ager to grandpa. Closely iden tified with the Post has been the unique art work of Norman Rockwell. His unsurpassed cov er designs began when girls looked like Gibson girls, men 1 wore derby hats and small boys yelled at early vintage autos, “Get a horse!” And through the years Rockwell’s cover paintings have been a perfect interpretation of the warm, hu man side of American life. I ] completed and on the next play ! Freddie Spence eluded the Aces’ j defenders and ran 71 yards for the score. I have seen many changes in the magazine field, from the disap pearance of the “pulps”, which made way for more streamlined modern publications, to the de mise of many old standbys, of which the most outstanding were the deeply entrenched Collier’s Weekly and the Ameri can Magazine. Let us earnestly hope that this change in the Saturday Evening Post is a healthy demonstration of edi torial progress and not an in dication of deterioration and de cline. Speaking of face-lifting, the Court House Green would be given a cleaner, fresher and more beautiful look, if the mowed grass were raked up in stead of being allowed to lie after being cut.
