W, OVERMAN, Chowan County Agent . . __ __ r> The Chowan County Fair: The Chowan County Fair is under way this week with the largest display of exhibits perhaps .in the history of the fair. All of these were very good exhibits and the ’ judges had a difficult time ren dering their decisions. In the Senior Youth booth ex hibits the John A. Holmes School FHA look first place. The Chmfnn High School FHA placed second. Center Hill Sr. ‘4-II Club was third. Chowan FFA Chapter'** was' fourth and the John A. Holmes High School Band exhibit was fifth. ‘•ln the ; adult booth exhibit class. Beech Fork Home Dem onstration Club placed first, Byrd Home Demonstration Club placed second and the Negro YMW booth placed third. All. of these exhibits also are of ex cellent quality. Wo will have to say “h‘ iWa JAMES WALSH & CO. lAWREMC£BU6Gk KENTUQUf beautiful watermelons came from at this time of the year. I In this exhibit are entries of certified Nugget sweet potatoes and certified Gold Rush sweet potatoes entered by Wilbert Harp of Cross Roads community, j. One booth is devoted to a display of six ears of each of the varieties of corn grown in a corn variety demonstration on Hayes Farm of Gilliam Wood this year. Each variety is clearly labeled. Hanging on a post at the booth are informa tion sheets giving various in formation on Ihe varieties as found in the field this year as well as the yield of dry corn. . We hope that those who are in- ' terested will take one of these 1 for any help it may be to therm in the future. It might be in teresting for you to know that this demonstration averaged 127 bushels of 15.5% moisture corn ’ , per acre. I This is truly an outstanding’ county fair. This morning, a person came up to me after having visited the Virginia State Fair at Richmond. He commented that in his opinion' we had just about as many ex hibits and certainly as good if ■ not better quality exhibits than i lie observed at the Virginia fair, i j While we are not trying to com- , pete with a great fair like the 1 I Virginia State, we are proud I that this visitor gave us this! j opinion of his observation, j Frankly, I believe our Exhibits, compare excellently with those at our North Caroling State Fair in years past. | This is only a brief resume of your Chowan County Farr and the only way that you can really appreciate this fair and Ihe exhibits is to come and see I for yourself. We hope that all . people in Chowan County, our neighboring countie's, and any I others who have the chance will | visit our County Fair.
